STORY: Ceramic Exhaust Wheel on my RB25 Turbo went out, heard pieces in the exhaust earlier but unsure if anything got in my motor. My wastegate line came off when I was out drifting but I don't recall a huge burst of power b4 it blew (like it overboosting). I was just getting my tires spinning in the rain about to initiate and POP...Drove it home no real power, definitely isn't boosting. Did a compression test (dry, with motor warmed up for rings to expand) results:
#1- 122
#2- 116
#3- 118
#4- 95/100
#5- 104
#6- 110

Already low #'s but #4 obviously bad.

Question: I imagine you may be able to help me find the parts I'll need for a rebuild at the lowest price online, I'm going to search myself but if anyone could post links to help me find the best deals I'd greatly appreciate it. Not sure on what size but OEM Over-sized pistons and rings (once I open up the motor I'll see if I can get away with a hone and new rings b4 deciding on over-sized pieces) While I'm inside the motor I may as well replace the rod bearings, also any recommendations on which headgasket to go with OEM or aftermarket? Just wanna basically do a stock rebuild and run 1bar on another RB25 Turbo

Thanks For any help/advice you can give me :bigthumb:

Tim

feel your pain did a rebuild not to long ago,

-oem gasket set (oem headgasket works better and is the best you'll get for something that doesn't cost a arm and leg)
-I went with acl bearings....
-dont know about oem pistons but atomic speedware sells oversized supertech pistons for the cheepest like 6 to 7 bills which ain't bad for aftermarket forgies
i would suggest spending some money at the machine shop(resurfacing the head. hot dip and new freeze plug on both block and head.)
in the rebuild stage replace anything thats worn thats not easily acessed..

my 2cents

I'll look into those pieces and see where I can find the best deal. I'm hoping the cylinder walls are fine and I can just hone them. Rather not have to get pistons not planning to go over 300whp, but yeah I planned to freshen everything up will be happy to see

If you need new rings, Eric's Performance Parts has some on ebay for about 180

Well I wont know what I need for a little while, have to pull the motor and tear into it b4 I see how bad the cylinder walls are (hope I'll luck out and they'll just need a hone) If u do have them and I end up needing them I'll get back to you.

I feel your pain. I have lowe compression in cylinder 2. It breaks up at anything over 10psi and pours out blue smoke if I boost it. Im debating whether or not I want to fork out the 2 + grand to rebuild it the right way or just start over with a short block........

I'm actually gonna pick up an RB25 NEO now :gapteeth: still may need headwork, either way i'm just going to spend to $ and time to rebuild it and do it right the first time. having a basically brand new motor with 80 more HP is gonna be legit
