Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hey Guys,

Just bought a 2008 EX35 with 40,000 miles in Dark Currant with Chestnut leather. It's got every factory option (luxe elite, tech, premium, nav + wood trim). I traded in my 01' Qx4 with 155k that was beginning to fall apart; I was more than happy to get the $2300 they offered on trade. I feel like I got a pretty good deal for $19,700 after trade (plus new tires & pads/rotors all around), especially for a hard to find color combination. It's too bad that more people didn't buy the dark currant w/ chestnut...IMO it's one heck of a combination that seems to be tailored to compliment each other. I'm amazed on how far Infiniti has come over the last 7 years, going from the QX that basically had nothing more than heated seats and Xenon headlights, to the EX with everthing from LDW/LDP to BI-Xenons with AFS. The "self-healing" is rather interesting as well...either the paint was painstakingly cared for or the self-healing paint really does its job as I can't find a scratch or a chip anywhere on the car.

I also wanted to give a big thank you to this website. On my test drive I almost walked away as the slip/vdc/brake lights came on under moderate acceleration. However with a simple search I found that it was likely either low brake fluid, or a need to replace the brakes. After getting the dealer to cough up new pads/rotors all around those lights are yet to return. I'm considering getting the Elite aftermarket warranty that some have mentioned from Courtney in AZ. For all the expensive fixes the car could have a $1300 "insurance policy" for 3/4 years of coverage seems like a good plan. I'm also looking to do some "just purchased" maintenance, other than the obvious like an oil change is there anything I should do now, or should I just check the fluids and wait to do the 60k down the line?

Very clean car.

Welcome to the Forum.

Did your Dealer give you a sheet that shows all what was checked before you took delivery of it?

Welcome to Nico!
Congrats on the new ride!

I recommend that extended warranty from Courtney. Although, I got mine from the lady in New Jersey. ( She no longer works there). It seems like you like to keep the car for another 3 years or more?

For oil change, I let my local dealership do the work for $30 which they provide an OEM oil filter and washer. I just give them 5 quarts of oil that I bought from Walmart for $32-35. (Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic oil) . That is only $65 the most compare to dealer $90+ if they provide their oil( Mobile 1 Full Synthetic oil.)
That also document in their system I did this service.

For 60k miles service, Coolant flash, Transmission fluid replacement includes differential fluid too..

I didn't receive a sheet showing what was checked or needed work, but did take the car for about a 60 mile test drive in various conditions. I also plugged in a code scanner, checked all fluids and did a good look underneath the vehicle for any trouble spots. The carfax also showed an extensive servicing history about every 2000 miles from the first owner through about 25k miles. The car also passed a NYS inspection for emissions as well as safety at both the dealership as well as from the previous owner. The dealer was about a 4 hour drive from me so I wasn't able to bring the car to a local mechanic to me that I trust to look it over. However after a 250 mile drive home I feel pretty confident that the car is in excellent shape and was well cared for.

I did the oil changes myself on my old QX, but wouldn't be opposed to doing what you mentioned above. Do you have any experience or knowledge if the Elite warranty has a lot of "voids due to......". I know that some warranties can be a nightmare, pretty much narrowing down any failed part to a non-covered one or base the failure on lack of maintenance. Would I still be covered if I did the oil changes myself and kept the receipts showing the purchase of the oil/filter/washer? Also, my nearest Infiniti dealer is about 90 miles away...I wouldn't have a problem making the drive to have warranty claims covered, however I'm wondering if I can have normal maintenance done at non-infiniti shops?

Thanks Guys

Netwreck94:

Keep all your receipt to document you did your own maintenance service on your EX. So far I always go to the stealership for reg. maintenance.

BTW, It's great that you asked them to changed the break pad and probably resurfaced/change the rotor. Our EX35 pads wear out quickly (My rear pads were replaced at 42K miles, but I heard some at 25-30K miles.) It is expensive service if you don't do it yourself. ($500+ for either front or rear not both! ) Other option is to go to Nissan dealership. They basically use the same fluid with Maxima or Altima and I assume they might use the same brake pads and rotors too. You may not be able to get free sodas and snacks...

If you get bored with the EX35, buy I used G37 coupe muffler for $75 here.

http://www.myg37.com/forums/private-cla ... ffler.html

It is a direct bolt on to our EX35. It gives our EX35 muffler sound character of the VQ coupe sound! It is a solid sound and not noisy or annoying. It is like mixed of FX35 and G37 coupe sound. When I put mine in, I felt that this is what the EX35 is missing. I have an almost 300 HP car and it does not sound like it and boring. ;) Now, after 4.5 years of driving my EX with the boring sound, after the install, I felt like I took a Viagra and spice things up! :chuckle:

Here is my EX35...
