1990 240sx, I installed a cone filter/maf adapter, and now when i start my car, it immediatly dies, unless i hold the gas.. and when i rev, it stops at 2600-3000rpms!.. what did i do wrong?!... I didnt throw the MAF around, it didnt bang around (that im aware of). no water got in it.. all the hoses and connections are sealed shut and tight.

is my MAF blown?

something is def wrong with your maf. go over your connection and if necessary check for power, ground, and signal.

move the harness conector around a little, wiggle it if you can (gentlly)

when my car was running like that, i accidentaly bumped it with my hand and like magic, the engine went from trying to stay alive to a rock solid perfect idle

well, heres what entailed last night

I went out and took the MAF off, brought it in, and cleaned the Outside of it with mineral spirits.. checking for maybe holes/cracks.. got it cleaned OUTSIDE, and went back to the car, pluged it up, and it runs like normal.. so I dunno whats up with that.. Now i got a new problem..

The car has a fuel cut at 5000rpms in 4th gear.. thats it.. 1,2,3,5 all fine.. but in 4th at 5000rpms, the car suddenly just stops revving,, then it slows revs down to like 3000 rpms, and returns to normal.. i dunno WTF that is about

that is completely normal just so you know, all nissans do it, it can be removed but i dont know why i would, 115 is plenty fast for me, lol. honestly, its there for your own safety, but if you must have it gone, do a search in 240 technical section, i know it has been discused numerous times

then thats probably it.. because my speed sensor goes koo-koo everyday.. and it happend to me today, i was in cruise at 70mph.. then the speedo spun all the way right to 120mph, then my cruise turned off. and did that damn rev fuel cut crap.. So speed sensor smells like the problem?

sensor or speedo head. the signal goes from sensor to speedo to ecm. you can test the sensor by spinning with drill motor and looking for ac voltage. prob speedo head though.

I had the same problem and it ended up being a faulty gauge cluster.

I dont know if it helps.. but the speedometer works 80% of the time.. maybe 90%...

sometimes it will stick to 0.. and other times it maxes out to like 125mph.. depends.. if im going over 70mph, it goes higher.. if below it dies to 0

maxes out at 125 when your going over 70? that sounds like the problem
