Car: s13 built block turbo in progress

Post

Hey guys, I just inhereted a 93 s13 with a ka24de from my buddy. He has already built the engine and now its up to me to finish the car and I'm lost as where to start... here is what has been done so far

3-way valve job
SuperTech Black Nitrided intake and exhaust valves (.5 over)
Dual Chrome Silicon Valve Springs and Titanium Retainers
SuperTech Phosphate Coated 8.5 compression Pistons with Gas Nitrided Rings (.5 over)
Polished Rods
Stock crank
Stock cams
New Cometic .054 Three Layer Metal Head Gasket
New Oil Pump
New bushings and bearings
15 gallon fuel cell 255lph pump
New Nismo motor mounts and transmission mounts
koyo radiator and electric fans
rebuilt 5spd trans with stage 3 clutch ...
Full exhaust setup plus an extra Apexi N1 muffler.

Soooo... what should I do to get this thing running reliably and without breaking my wallet....
what size turbo should I go for with the lower compression ??? and can I get away with the stock injectors and MAF?? ...what really gets me is how I'm gonna get this thing tuned right ... any helpful input would be appreciated

ignore the sell it comment. if you plan on turbocharging it size up a turbo that will suit your needs and power goals. you can do a t2 setup virtually headache free but a good quality t2 will cost around a grand and your power yeilds wont be as great as t3 but it will give you amazing response. for a mild 300ish whp you might consider a set of deatshwerks 550's, n62 maf, Garrett 2860rs, and either an enthalpy or jim wolf rom tune. it sounds like you have a good long block to start this project with so finishing it shouldnt be to difficult. what are your plans for the car?

nobody was born knowing everything. we all had to start somewhere. if u plan on turbocharging it make sure to read the "Addin a turbo ka" thread stickied at the top of the ka-t section. it has some excellent info. if u have any other questions i'll do my best to help u and answer them for u. as far as turbo sizing go to www.turbobygarrett.com and start comparing turbochargers in the gt2860rs range and up. they also have a great turbo tech section that you can read and learn to understand the principles of cmpressor maps, flow charts and sizing. u can go to deatschwerks.com and use theyre fuel calculator to help you properly size your fuel injectors. i hope all that helps

the Garrett 101-103 turbo tech is a must read for someone who is planing on going ka-t, although a Garrett turbo might not necessarily be what you want. im not saying they are bad turbos, they are great. but its all personal preference. some ppl like holset, and i like bullseye. take your time, do your research, your setup is all about what you want. but keep in mind that the parts you choose must accommodate each other. the guys here will be more than happy to answer any questions you have :)

I don't want to start another T2 vs T3 thread, but if your motor is built for big numbers a T2 isn't worth wasting money on. They simply DO NOT support the kind of power a T3/T4 does and the added lag is negligible. There are many manifold and kit options so saying a T2 is easier no longer applies.

hey its all about selection man. t2 vs t3, thats in a whole different thread. just choose what's right for u and what will suit your needs. dont let anyone discourage u. build it, tune it and rock the sh*t out of it
