Folks just how awful is this timing chain guide/tensioner issue on 2005-2007 Xterras?

I've made an offer (and it was accepted) on a 81.3k 2005 XTerra Offroad.

Will I be fine until I hear something?

Is it just the tensioners and guides like in the VH45des of yore not the actual chians ( a sI strongly suspect)

Do shops generally know to do this job w/o the chains?

Info or links to good threads on it here much appreciated.

First I've heard of it...

There is a TSB - NTB09-128 that addresses it. Looks like there are a couple of special tools involved, and all three chains are removed, although the main chain is re-used. It looks like what they're calling the "shoe" on the tensioners for the secondary chains must be the cause of the problem. The TSB covers 2005-2010 Xterras, Frontiers, and Pathfinders with the VQ.

Thanks Heath!

I've seen $1500 mentioned on some other boards.
