First off...nice forum! I've been reading for the past few months and decided to join after my recent repair. Tons of great info here, and I was happy to finally purchase some window visors (thanks to Versa Speed). I don't have any pics yet, but I'll throw some up after I finish some customizing. I have a black SL btw.

Anyway, I just took my Versa on its first big road trip from Denver to Minneapolis and about halfway through, it was having some starting issues...pretty much the exact same symptoms that others here were having. I would let it sit for an hour or two, and upon startup, it would take me two or three tries along with a tap of the gas pedal to get it to start. I was thinking it could have been from the high humidity, or a change in elevation, or perhaps some bad fuel, but upon doing some research I discovered it most likely was the regulator or fuel pump.

Sometimes the problem would occur, sometimes it wouldn't. It seemed though that the longer I let it sit after driving it, the more the problem was likely to happen. Then on the way home, my weather guard (that big plastic piece underneath the engine) decided to fall off on it's own. It sounded like I had a flat tire, but it was actually the guard dragging on the ground, held on by two plastic plugs. I ripped it off, threw it in the backseat, and drove home...disappointed that my wittle baby was falling apart.

So anyway, I just got home from the dealer. It did turn out to be the regulator, normally $600, but it was covered under warranty. I have 7,000 miles on my Versa btw. From talking to the service tech, I was the first Versa from the dealer to have the problem. They were aware of the service bulletin posted by Nissan however, so they weren't too shocked when I told them of my symptoms. While it sucks that it happened, it was a quick repair. I forgot to ask them if they installed a new part of the same manufacturer, but I would assume that since Nissan recognizes the part as a failure that they would put in a different one.

Just wanted to let all the fellow Versa owners know of what I went through. Hopefully this is the end of it for me. Sounds like this problem isn't really consistent at all though.

Nice to see another Versa from Colorado.

I had that same problem too with my Versa. The engine wouldn't start up correctly the first time, so I wait 10 seconds and it starts fine. Ever since then, it never acted up. I have about 11,000 miles so far and bought it back in April 2008. Love the car so far, it takes a while to grow on you but does eventually.

What do you plan to do with the car? Any modifications you're thinking of like rims, CAI, lowering springs and tint?

Northglenn...nice. Not too terribly far away.

Yeah I was hoping the problem would go away on its own. There were times where it was back to normal, but then it would come back even worse. Once started though the car ran just fine, so I wasn't worried. It was more of an annoyance than anything.

I'm still debating on what mods I would like to do. While I love the look of lowered Versas, I think I'm more of a fan of the sporty "off-road" look. The Versa isn't exactly an off-road vehicle, but I've been really happy with its performance up in the mountains. I'd like to put new rims and tires on, along with a Thule cargo rack for the top. I would also like to get the windows tinted, the fogs wired up, a bug deflector on the hood, some LEDs in the interior, a bumper protector on the rear bumper, and more. Right now I'm figuring out a way to fit a GPS into the dash. Next will be upgrading the speakers and adding a sub and amp. Tons of stuff to accomplish but so little funds haha.

I really cannot believe that Nissan has not fixed this problem once and for all. To see that yours is a 2009 is particularly disturbing. I doubt that I will ever buy a Nissan again. I feel somewhat lucky that State Farm totaled our Versa after getting flooded in front of our house in massive rains two months ago. I never felt the overall quality was there. I expect to get totally flamed now, but that is inexcusable for you to be having the same issues that were prevalent on 2007 and 2008 Versas. Fred

Yeah Fred I had expected more from Nissan. I still love the quality of their products and am happy with the Versa overall, but I'm surprised this problem hasn't been resolved over the past few years. At least they've recognized that there's a problem and have released service bulletins, but I still feel a little nervous everytime I start my vehicle now.

Br4dysays, did you have your regulator replaced as well and if so, did the problem come back with the new part? My fear is that they put in a replacement part from the same factory. I would hope that they didn't, but if this problem hasn't been fixed from '07 to '09, then it could very well be the same manufacturer. It'll be interesting to see if next year's model will continue this trend.

yeah nissan replaced it under warranty. haven't had a problem at all since and have put on another 20k++ since then. i asked if it was just them replacing it with the same part when i had the warranty work done and the guy assured me that it wasnt. so only time will tell but no problems so far
