Hi,

We just got a Versa HB SL (w/ CVT + ABS) yesterday, and after driving it for a day, I saw a few weird things that I wanted to ask about:

1. Today it was around 60 - 65 degrees here, and every time I started the engine, I saw the "Low Temperature Indicator Light (blue one)" go on, and it then turns off after a little while. Is this normal?

2. I start the engine, start moving and the very first time I hit the gas a bit more abruptly (like just to move a bit faster), I hear a CLICK sound coming from the engine/clutch/CVT. It only happens once and I don't hear it again till I start the engine some other time again. And, it happens almost every time. Anyone saw this problem?

3. Temperature dropped to 55 at night, and I was driving in the city (low speed, like 20-30 MPH), and "Low Tire Pressure" warning came up? As I said before, I just bought the car yesterday, and it was a bit weird.

In summary, are these things normal behavior, or should I be worried about them?

I would appreciate any comments on these issues because I am a bit worried that I saw these things happen on a brand new car...

1. Absolutely normal. It is just an indicator that the engine is a little cold and the light goes off as the engine warms up.

2. I have a CVT and it doesn't happen to me but I seem to remember some others talking about the noise you're describing. Maybe someone else can address this issue for you.

3. Again, normal if you keep your tire pressures at the lower end of the recommended tire pressure listed on the tires. Cold weather will cause the tire pressure to lower, which is probably triggering your TPMS. Check the tire pressure all the way around, and if none of the tires are out of line with the others you might want to put a few more lbs of air in all of them to keep the TPMS light off.

Congrats on getting a Versa!

1. Temperature light is absolutely normal when the engine isn't warmed up, I just usually take it easy on the car when the light is on.

2. Same thing happens in my car, I believe this is the ABS self-test. It should happen the first time you get to around 10 mph or so after starting your car.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the fourms!

I was going to address the issues you brought up but I see two others already did.

Have fun with your V!

I have the blue light always go on for the first min of starting the car, then it warms up and goes awayI have a 4 speed AUTO no ABS, and I get clicking noise when I shift, one clicking noise is when I press the breaks the the shifters little button opens up, the second one is when I **** into D or R, it clicks and then thats it. The TMPS never showed for me, because I filled in more air and it hasnt been cold in here yet.

Just to reinforce these answers...

1) The Versa does not have a traditional coolant-temp gauge - instead, it has a "dummy" gauge that lights up blue when the coolant is "cold", is absent (not lit) when the coolant temp is "normal", and lights up red if it is "hot" or overheating.

Every car, when started up after sitting for a while, is going to show "cold" on a temp gauge. The colder it gets outside, the quicker your car will return to "cold" between trips.

You are advised to keep your revs low while the blue "cold" light is on, just as with any car, and it is best to allow the car to warm up properly before driving.

2) As previously stated, that's the ABS self check. It's perfectly normal.

3) Keep in mind the Ideal Gas Law: PV = nRT (where P = pressure, T = temperature). Pressure is directly proportional with temperature. A good "rule of thumb" is that tire pressure varies about 1 PSI for every 10°F.

If your tires are filled to their cold-pressure rating at 85°F (you're in Houston, so I'm guessing it's still pretty warm out) and the temp then drops to 55°F overnight, you've experienced a 30°F change - which is proportional to a 3 PSI drop, certainly enough of a drop to be detected by the TPMS...especially if your tires were on the low side of their PSI range to begin with.
