I just received my Boost Designs manifold and downpipe. I don't have any qualms about the DP since I won't be using it anyways but the manifold is another story. The welds are honestly pretty bad, there are pieces of piping that weren't welded on center so it creates a lip, and there are a LOT of welding boogers all over the inside that I will have to get out so they don't destroy my turbo. Aside from all this the collector is very rough and bumpy. I will need to smooth this out a lot. I will post pictures up to let you guys know but as of now I am very much feeling that the manifold was RUSHED through the process to get the order out. I am trying to write honestly and not attacking PJ or BoostDesigns but damn, I spent a lot on this and it's pretty rough. Pics will be posted by the end of the day.

Please post up some pics, I don't want this to turn into a man hunt with a bunch of BD bashing. I know PJ offers a refund or warrenty of somekind. However it hsouldn't need to apply to brand new goods, only goods that fail after use.

Lets keep this thread clean and on topic, I'll be keeping an eye on and deleting any out of line posts.

ThanksWD

I was just posting on why I haven't ordered yet.Haven't heard all that many reviews to convince me to get it. This coulf od just been one of the mani's that went through development at the wrong time.**** happens.as long as the compny fixs it ASAP no worries we should be understanding of technical difficulties.

Yeah pics would help alot. I know myself that many manifolds that are hand welded dont exactly end up looking like they do on the website. If you want perfect robotic tig welds, you're usually going to have to pay the price at a place like Fullrace ($1000+ for a mani). My ETD manifold was somewhat sloppy in the collector as well. Whats really important I think is to keep in mind how much you paid for the mani (not alot), and whether or not it actually works and holds out well.

That said, pics will tell the difference between an acceptably sloppy cheap mani that works, and a rushed product that should be returned.

I had the same initial feelings when I received my manifold a couple weeks ago. I am not an expert on what great welding looks like, but with that being said, my expectations and what I received are worlds apart. And I would have to say that honestly, my first thought was that the job did look hurried. However, we will see once it get's bolted on and I get a chance to break in my new motor for a few thousand miles...then it's time to see what kind of numbers it can make.

we are interrested in seeing these pics ourselves if i deem that the mani is not up to standards i can offer a replacement for you no problem but there welding department is generally pretty good at ATR seeing as most the guys there have been there 10+ years and you are actually the first to ever say that the welds were not great so i am really interrested in seeing it. please send me a set to sales@boostdesigns so i can show the welding foreman things like this can happen i just have not seen it before but you do have the warranty against manufacturer defects so you are covered if it deems it. thanks

I know...from a lot of the reviews I have read and pictures I have seen here on NICO, 240sxforums.com, TR, KA-T.org, etc, etc, people have been really impressed with the workmanship of the manifold. Why else do you think I forked over my hard-earned cash for one?

Maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist and the particular details I noticed are commonplace...I'm not a welding expert and I stated that fact earlier. I was simply agreeing with H. Shiznit that my initial reaction when I unwrapped the manifold is that particular parts of it looked hurried. All I really care about is that the manifold does what it was designed to do.

I will try to get some pictures taken ASAP, but I probably won't be able to send them along until Monday.

^^^This is the wastegate extension, it is very rough and on the left side that is a lip about 1-2mm that I will have to smooth down.

^^^That is the exhaust for cylinder 1. As you can see the collector is not even and not smoothed into the entry which will cause a flow disturbance, I have to smooth that all down to make it even.

^^^This shows the rough and bubbly collector point. Hard to tell from the picture but there are exhaust boogers all throughout the runners and I will have to get all of those out to ensure that they don't break off and take out my turbo.

^^^ Very rough picture but just another look at the main collection.

Once again I am in no way dissing on BoostDesigns or PJ, I think what he is doing is awesome for the KA/Nissan community. Hell, I ordered pistons from him a couple days ago. I have already put my money and faith in him and I just thought that this particular time the job might have been rushed.

EDIT: I dunno how to work it, here's the link to the pictures: http://northwestnissans.com/ph...=2543

That's what the pics I tried to take look like with my old camera.

Here are my pics for refrence.

Those were the last pics that camera took for me.. bought a new one. But again, it's hard to get good pics of those.

The only thing I see is that the turbo flange looks beat up.. fairly bad.-Jeff

Thanks for checking this out PJ.

IMO, as a DIY welder, I think the runner tig welding looks very good. Like you said, it just seems to need some port/polish work. But not a bad product for the money either way, you should have seen one of the SSautocrap manifolds I had....the ports didn't even line up let alone need cleaning.

ya that mani still isnt as bad as an SSA one. the collector is fairly rough on the inside but compared to the SSA collector, the BD collector is as smooth as silk. nonetheless, good job on the customer service PJ...........
