so i just go a 89 240sx  and i had a few questions. the first and most important is... i need to replace the trans. :frown: because i have a bearing loose and my mechanice said to just replace the whole thing its making a nasty rattling sound in first, second, and third gear. so i was wondering if anyone knows where i could get a trans for a ka24e 5 speed for cheap? i live in San Jose CA so if anyone lives near by it would be great if we could meet up.
thanks you

You could get a trans in so many different places bro. First off, you live in San Jose, there are plenty of 240's there. Search on your local craigslist. If no luck, go to the classified section of this forum. If still no luck, try Zilvia. (Yes I said the Z word)

Does the transmission shift smoothly, or is it hard to shift? Any grinds, etc? If not, it's very possible that it may just be your throw out bearing, or hell, maybe even the flywheel is loose. They rattle like hell when they're loose.

A rattling sound in the drive train can be so many different things. Carrier bearing, driveshaft rubbing on something, bad diff, etc etc etc. Does it only make a noise when you are rolling? Does it make a noise when you are sitting still?

Almost every 240SX I have ever driven has trouble getting into reverse sometimes.

Alright then it's not your throw-out bearing. If it was your throw-out bearing, it would make a rattle/grind when the clutch pedal was not engaged, but as soon as you engaged it, it would go away. (In my experience, anyway)

Maybe it is your transmission. transmission's for KA24E's go for like $100 or less all day on craigslist/our classifieds/zilvia

I actually had one a few months back I practically gave away. Wish you woulda needed it then!
