1st off I want to introduce myself. My name is Chris from Maine via Michigan.

I been looking for a G for 7 weeks and finally purcahsed today down in Mass. When it rains it pours. On my way home (2.5 hrs from dealer) I make it thru the Maine boarder 40 mins from home when Bam the fron tire blows. Now the kicker this is a brand spanking new car I bought today with 4 miles and 99 miles when tire goes. Question.....Should the dealer pay for the tire? The tired shreeded into pieces. There was no nail, no hitting anything just sheer shreading of the wheel. I was going 65 when it happend and there was a ton of smoke. Should I worry of other damage to car? The Infiniti help line sent a truck out to put the donut on.

As for the car once again its a 2008 G35x with Nav and premium package. Its graphite and I love her but off to the wrong foot.

I look forward to hearing responces and participating in this forum!

Cheers!

First, WELCOME!!! and CONGRATS!!!! (I'm new too, and not sure if I'm allowed to play 'welcome commitee'. my bad, lol)

Second, that sucks. I doubt they are liable, unless you can prove anything. You should check the post on old tires, you never know.

Third, your car may be cursed. Sorry. Perhaps a NICO-ism to warn away the demons?

First of all WELCOME!!!

Second, if you read the manual it says tires are not covered under the warranty. But I would talk to the sales guy/girl. They have a lot at stake if you are unhappy (future business & referrals ) and may make it right anyway.

The tire isn't covered by warranty, however if the tire has 99 miles on it, and it blows/shreds while driving, the tire was a defect, and should be replaced free of charge. The tire manufacturer might have some type of a warranty that the dealer can cash in.

Welcome to Nicoclub Chris!

First of all, I'm not a superstitious person but I think that may be a good "omen" that you blew the tire. My first car caught on fire the day I bought it and it turned out to be a great car. Consider yourself fortunate that you got your "bad experience" over with and the rest of your cars life should be happy... hopefully.

As far as the tire goes... I'm sorry that it happened, but I believe that you may have some recourse with the dealer. Most states (And I don't know about Maine) have a 3 day right of recission on your purchase. I would recommend that you respectfully approach your sales representative with the disappointing situation that you have encountered and give them the opportunity to rectify the situation. I'm certain that if they are a respectable salesperson, then they would gladly replace your tire simply to gain points with you. However, they may not be under any obligation to do so. I recommend that you do not get angry with them as these things happen in life, but I'm confident that if you approach them with a well centered attitude of disappointment in your experience, they will be more inclined to gain your service patronship rather than blow you off. Afterall, they are seeking a customer for life... not just a customer for the day... I hope...

Please do not let this unfortunate experience discourage your overall positive experience with the Infiniti product as most of us are thouroughly pleased with the experience of G ownership.

Please keep us posted on your experience and continue to feel welcomed in this forum of like minded enthusiasts. We greet you to the G35 world and look forward to your continued participation.

Welcome friend,

Dave

Complain to the sales person. I had 4 bad tires and horrid rear brakes on my car when i bought mine. Didn't even pass inspection. Tire popped in the inspection line after i was rejected for unsafe tires. I called the salesman and i got 2 new brakes and 4 michalin tires for free. Dealerships hate to make customers mad because they will tell all there friends not to shop there and the guest will never return.

Also do a search for tires on this forum. Just because tires look new doesn't mean that they are. Check the date codes on the other tires. If they are old the dealer will replace them. Get yourself a good quality tire pressure gauge and check tire pressure weekly. Living in Maine, your tire pressure will drop considerably as the weather turns colder.

I should have read that part when I first got my G, cuz when I went for my first oil change and the service department guy asked me why my tires were bald after 3 weeks, I was "IDK, do you? aren't those things covered under warranty?"

Welcome to NICO!!

Sorry to hear what happened but I'm glad to hear your ok.

The boys are right, tires are not covered under warranty (unless you bought the tire protection package) but I would absolutely follow telco's advice and contact the manufacturer. Please keep us posted on what happened!

I just got up off my butt and looked in my warranty booklet.Tires are covered. In the rear pages of the warranty booklet are the pages referring to different tire brands, battery, etc. Since I have Bridgestone Turanza's I only read that portion. If the tire fails for any reason with less than 25% of tire tread use the warranty states full replacement.

Chris

Request the dealer to either send another tire already mounted and balanced to you and pay you to have it mounted or have them send a loaner vehicle to you to pick up your vehicle with a flatbed truck & return it with a new tire. Be nice and polite and ask to speak to the service manager. Explain what happened and the difficulty that you have in returning as well as the time involved. Check the date codes on your other tires. BTW, what brand of tires are on your vehicle? If you are not satisfied after speaking to the service manager, contact Infiniti customer service.I purchased four new Bridgestone Turanza tires from my dealer this past January. After viewing the 20 20 piece on tires last week I discovered two of my new tires were manufactured in 2003. I called the dealer and they replaced those two tires this morning at no charge. I already had 12k miles on them. I am very happy with my Infiniti dealer and the service that they have provided thus far in my 59k miles.Good luck & let us know how you make out? Ask if the warranty also overs bear or moose bites on tires?

Welcome Hockey,

I agree with telco. So far I have been very happy with my infiniti dealer. I would think that they would cover it especially after only 99 miles. When I purchased my G it had just over 3/4 of a tank of gas. My salesman called me the next day and asked if the car was delivered clean and with a full tank of gas. I mentioned the 3/4 tank and he told me to come in when I was in the area and he would fill it up. A month later I was in the area and my gas light was close to coming on. I called him up and he said to swing by. He gave me a gas voucher for the station next to the dealership. $68 later I was filled up and on my way .

Hi Chris,

I also have an '08 G35x. I love it. I don't think the dealer will pay for a new tire (different warranty) but I do think they should go to bat for you and do all the appropriate leg work. Infiniti says they hold themselves to a higher standard so let's see just how good their word really is. Let us know how you make out.

Dave.

Thx for all the positive jive here on the forum. I drover 1.5 hrs each way to get a stinkin tire. Nobody in the Portland Maine area had it!I called the dealer in Mass and they said to fax the recipt to them and they will see if they can do anything from Infiniti. So that is telling me they will not do a damn thing unless Infiniti gives them money for it. At any rate will report in next week!

Thank you everyone. I think this is going to be a fun forum to attend on a regular basis!I guess I will need to take some shots of the ride and post em.

I picked my car up on Tuesday and read the warranty booklet. Failure due to a defect is covered by the tire manufacturer. If in fact it did simply come apart and was not due to road hazard, your tire will be replaced, balanced, and installed free by Goodyear.

Here is the update. Infinti did not do jack **** for me. Goodyear did pay for the tire minus any labor. So I got something for what it is worth.

Thanks for the good wishes and direction to forum members!

Why didn't goodyear replace it free, including labor? That's what the warranty booklet says. It may not be worth the hassle, but you do have a case.
