It has only been 4 months since I bought my coupe and I've already been involved in an accident. Basically, I hit the person in front me of. Yes it was totally my fault. Looks like I'll have to get a new hood and possibly repaint the bumper. I have no idea how much this will all cost, and I think I've screwed myself with a high deductible on my collision insurance. In addition to all of this, there was a hissing sound coming from under the trunk and I couldn't determine where exactly or what exactly was making the noise. The noise stopped after about an hour. I'm afraid to drive the car now, even though I was able to drive home fine after the accident.

anybody else been in an accident yet?

That sucks big time, sorry to hear. How did you rear end the person?

Basically just did a hard bump into the wheel cover on the back of their SUV. I was in a right turn lane and mistakenly thought the person in front of me was going to turn or turning, looked to the left for incoming traffic for my own turn, took my feet off the brakes, and BOOM!.

This type of accident is quite common, I have witnessed several of these, and many near collision ones. That's why when making a right turn in a turning lane, you should keep looking at the car in front of you until they start to take off, then look to see if it's open for you to turn right. For some reason, when people are looking over their left shoulder to see if they can turn, they forget that there's a car in front of them.

Sorry to hear about the mishap. Hissing from under the trunk? Sounds like you may have just knocked the exhaust a little off and maybe blew a gasket. If that's the case, it's nothing to really worry about right away. When getting your car repaired, tell them to check out your exhaust gaskets. Or you could just go under your car and listen if you can hear air escaping from one of the exhaust joints. If so, it's probably a blown gasket. If you're mechanically inclined, you could remove the exhaust and seal it up your self with some gasket sealant.

Sorry to hear about your luck. That hissing noise is without a doubt coolant.

Not if it's coming from the rear end.

yeh the hissing sound (like generic said) is probably just your exhaust.. if you know to install your own exhaust, i'm sure you can find the leak no problem. i'm sorry to hear about your accident.. ^^

V, so what's the 411 on your car? Is it salvaged/totalled or are they going to repair it?

Sorry to hear. Sucks to damage a new car, but as long as you're alive...everything else can be made to seem irrelevant. In the end, it's just a car.

They are fixing it! Quotes are an average of 8k, far from 80% to total my car! Sad, but what am I going to do?

That's great news. Is insurance covering the entire amount (less deductible)? Keep us posted. Hope you have your baby back in no time!
