Just got car, and Over Drive wont engage and odometer stoped

I just purchased a 89 240sx and the automatic overdrive won't engage. I think it might have to do with the button but I am not sure. Also for some reason the odometer stoped working I don't know if these problems are linked or not. I need to get this fixed soon as with out the over drive this car sucks gas down like water.

check spped sensor on the steering rack.
