I crossed a double yellow line on the Verazano (sp?) bridge in July and was given a sumons.

Drove to Staten Island last night with the wife, scoped out the court and stayed in a rundown motel till this morning.

After explaining that I was not from the area and basically didn't know where I was going, she charged me 2 points and $50 in court fees.

I was told that I could got to a Defensive Driving class to get rid of the points but I do not know If that is only in NY.

Now do these points go on my overall driving record or only my NY record?

Will these get submitted to the insurace company?

Not a bad experience but I wouldn't want to go through it again. Now I have a $125 ticket to pay cause of speeding in North Carolina (went to check out the 240 and got it while coming back home) and a $55 one for not having a plate affixed to front and rear of the 240SX.

I never received a ticked for the 2 years I had the civic but I've already got 2 within 6 days of owning the 240.

Glad it worked out for ya. I think the points are supposed to show up on your overall record. Ive had experiences where the points never showed up. In one case, it appeared on my record months later. I renewed my insurance a few months after the ticket and insurance company didnt mention it, then next time I renewed, it was there.

It's the insurance company's resposnibility to check in with the court/DMV on you, not the court's to go searching down who you're insured with and call them up personally. Sometimes it'll never show up, sometimes it'll be really late...ya never know.

A touch off-topic, but there was an article recently in the Dallas News about how in Texas MOST of the time criminal reports simply "get lost" and never make it to the state database. I am talking about serious assault/robbery cases here. So at least in Texas I wouldn't be surprised if traffic ticket reporting is any better outside of the local level; I wouldn't be surprised if the same situation could be found elsewhere.
