If it's your first ticket, you should be okay. Just don't get another one any time soon.

Get Pre Paid Legal if you want a chance at getting out of any future tickets.

yeah this is my first ticket. But i heard no matter how many tickets you have, your insurance will always go up. Im looking into something called ticket clinic which is like a traffic lawyer but im not sure that that will guarantee a no conviction. Has anyone tried ticket clinice before?

I got a ticket one time in N.C. going 21 over and had to go to court, showed up with a good attiude and didnt fight it, I guess the judge was in a good mood gave me a non-moving violations. So it did not affect my insurance.

I'm not sure how they do it in FL, but here in California, on your first speeding ticket, you're able to go to traffic school, and by doing so, it doesn't get reported to your insurance agency or something like that. The ticket does stay on your record, but your policy doesn't go up

Alright, I think I can help you... Here are your options:

1. Pay the ticket and accept the points and the raised insurance2. Take it to court... if you lose you still have to pay the ticket. If you win the case, you have to pay the court fees. No points or higher insurance.3. Take traffic school and avoid the points and the insurance raise.

Ive gotten two tickets. The first one I decided to go through traffic school. I would not recommend it. Its 4 hours long and it gets old real quick. The latest one I went to the Traffic Clinic. They guarantee that you wont lose the case if its your first ticket or if its been at least two years since your last one. The only downside is that the court fees will be pretty close to the amount of your ticket.

I would do some research on how likely you are to get off if you take it to court. The ticket that I took to court was from going 81 in a 60 by a FHP. If the ticket you got was from FHP, you caught a huge break. FHP doesnt get court pay when they show up to enforce the tickets and are therefore less likely to show up. Miami- Dade does. If you were "tracked" by aircraft, then both the officer who wrote the ticket and the pilot have to show up at court.

Let me know if you have any questions, Id be more than happy to explain it further or give you more examples.

Edit: Down here, you can only take traffic court once in a six month period and no more than three times total.

Ive had 2 tickets neither made my insurance go up, but when my license was suspended it did go up but only like 40 bucks.

1 ticket shouldn't affect your insurance, but then again im in Illinois, laws are different

The ticket stays the same... and you have to pay an additional $40 for the class. IMO, take it to court and do plenty of research beforehand.

when was ur last ticket cuz ive taken the course 3 times holmes... you pay a higher ticket fee as well as paying for the class but you get no points and no insurance hike.

and its once a year unless they've changed it in the last year.

also online course FTMFW.. you can take it over a course of days if you want...

might help OP http://www.dmvflorida.org/traffic-school.shtml

ninja edit... just found thishttp://www.dmvflorida.org/driving-records.shtml

"Florida Drivers are permitted to complete a driver improvement course (traffic school) five (5) times in their life and once in a twelve (12) month period. If you receive a traffic ticket and are considering traffic school you should be certain you meet the eligibility requirements."

i need to check mine... if the ticket has points assesd to your license they usually expire after 3yrs IIRC

Its different state to state.

Here in Connecticut, its pointless trying to fight it out in court, you go down there, theres 1 court room obligated to taking care of traffic tickets, easily always 40 people in line waiting to be heard, they get in there, the judge says we will lower your $ on the ticket now f*** off. I dont know anybody that has gotten out of it.

BUT! If you choose to just pay the ticket, sometimes you dont get points on your licence because my speeding ticket was "Unreasonable Speeding" btw this was given to me after i f***ing totalled my new rx8, f***ing ***hole cop, so they couldnt prove how fast i was going and stuff, so it didnt hurt me lol.

it's a business. i don't care what state you're in. haggle with the cop before court. go in there with a good attitude, find the cop that wrote you the ticket and try to plea it down to a non moving violation. usually here they'll give you a non moving violation with a fine that's equivelant. they do not want you to lose your license, they just want to take your money. i have a stack of tix like 5 inches thick from over the years. i've gotten plenty dropped altogether, but many i just plea down. the cop says to the judge when you go up there that you've come to an agreement and he asks the judge to accept the plea. 99% of the time the judge agrees. i've only had 1 pt. on my license ever. you should get to know your local police force, buy em drinks at the bar. it definately helps.

but for those who do not network nor know the system....here in NY we have a pt. system. 5-15 over is 3 pt's, 15-25 is 4pts, etc. an illegal turn is 1 pt, no seatbelt now is a point, etc. equiptment malfunction and parking on pavement are non moving violations and that is usually what you can plea down to. if you take defensive driving here, it's a 6 hour course for $50, it drops 4 pt's off your license and 10% of your insurance. theres 2 point systems though. your license you are only allowed up to 12 points in 3 years or 3 speeding tickets in 3 years before they take it away. also, every 3 years the points drop off your license. insurance on the other hand has a different point system and the points will stay on for 7 years. for every 1 pt. added on is a 10% raise on your insurance premium. a light speeder is 1 pt., an accident with only damage to objects is 1 pt, an accident with damage to another car or person is 2 pt's, a collision claim is 1 pt, etc. call your insurance company for details on that. call your local court, dmv, or traffic lawyer for info on dmv points.

just remember though, it's all a business, they just want your money.

Wow wow wow wow... Wait a second are you serious... traffic school, paying the ticket and going to court.

I have gotten 3 moving violations in miami Like 12 in broward and another 6 or 7 in palm beach and only paid or went to court for like 3 maybe 4.

GET A TICKET LAWYER... pay 60 bucks and it goes away. I will even give you the number of the guy I use if you don't wanna choose one (pm me.) I used to have letters all over my fridge saying the ticket was thrown out.

Nothing against cops but PLEASE don't pay this ticket. If you want to donate money to the Miami PD then give them the money you will save. Just don't pay it.

+1 to that str33tprintz. im movin to miami in 5 weeks, i think im gonna pm you for that # since i wont know anyone down there. up here i know most the local pd by now, and court clerks, and judges, etc. being new to miami not knowing anyone there, i know i'll actually have to pay my tickets down there without help. from what i hear the cops are just as annoying there as they are here.

how about just don't speed period. i see too many threads along these same lines "i got caught speeding/drifting/generally driving like an a$$, how do i get out of it?" it's ridiculous, if you can't control your urges to drive in an asinine manner on public roads, you're going to get caught and ticketed and have nothing to b**** about.

Yeah numbnuts is right but because I've been there I can tell you that particular a$$ does not come off as easy when you are younger. The car that I got all of those tickets in was not a 240 and definitely not fast either. It was a candy apple red 99 toyota camry with rims and tv's and crap. But you know what 30 sum tickets 4 suspensions and another 4 accidents and a lawsuit later I can tell you I don't even know where I left that particular hat .

By the way I emailed the business card as I promised. If anyone else needs it for Miami, Broward or Palm Beach pm me

But please guys don't wait until you have demolished your most prized possession to curb your bad habits... like I did.

Here in GA you can ask the solictor Gen for the ticket to be reduced as it is your first ticket a lot of times before you go to court some place make you wait until you go to court. I would get a traffic lawyer after i called the court house.

I've gotten a handful of tickets and you just need to cool it.what you CAN do it is go buy yourself a box of animal crackers and tape it behind the gas pedal to keep yourself from going to fast.

If you have been received a traffic ticket then it is not far from possible that you will be designated as Habitual traffic offender. And having a ticket will possibly put you in Florida drivers license suspension.
