I have a 2004 FX35. This is my first higher end car. I noticed excessive oil consumption and was told I needed a new engine. Fortunately I had purchased the extended warranty and the dealer put in a new long block- no charge. I made it by 150 miles btw.

Of course this leads me to why this should have happened in the first place. Oil was changed in the 3750-4000 mile range. 50/50 highway city driving.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

Eric

This problem occurs in the G35 as well...i'm not sure of the year range but i have an '07 coupe and am currently in the process of the oil consumption test. I also have an '05 FX35 and i am curious to see if i will run into the same problem. How is the new engine treatin' ya?

Oil consumption is a common problem with the 4.5L V8 engines. There doesn't appear to be a permanent fix to the problem either. Folks that had their "engines" replaced still experience oil consumption as well. You'll basically just need to keep a close eye out on your oil level every 1000-1500 miles. :)
