First of all I love it! It is a sport package with nav. One of the first things I want to do is upgrade the data DVD. How do I find out what version I have? What is the latest version out there? Can anyone hook me up with the latest update CD and DVD database for a nominal fee?

Also, how can I tell if my car has the ITB-02048 update?

This is my first Infiniti and I really did not do a ton of research on these cars before purchase. I have read the FAQ's on here but there isn't a ton of info on the 02 and newer versions. Are there any critical items I need to check out on it first?

ThanksPatrick

The DVD is under the parcel shelf on the passenger's side and accessed from the trunk.

If that is the throttle update, if your pedal is pivoted at the accelerator lever, it has not been done. Intially there were two separate TSB that were later combined into one when the ECU was reprogrammed and the TCU updated.

Do download the FSM at least if not the TSB and study them.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to NICO.

Check with local Infiniti dealership and obtain a service history. They can tell if ITB-02048 (ECU/TCU upgrade) and ITB-02040 (pedal assembly) has been performed. If not expect to shell out close to $1K.

First thing is change ALL fluids.

Good luck.

+1 change fluids, specially the engine and trans.

get a dip stick for the trans, you can get it from your dealer for about $20. i always check mine. the 02 did not come with a trans dip stick. don't forget the differential fluid too

Has anyone posted times for 0-60 and 1/4 mile on '02 Qs before and after ITB-02048 update?

Not that I can recall but the difference from what everyone here reports is pretty dramatic. If it hasn't been done it will probably be worth your time to get it done. Go to the stealership and find out, see if you can sweet-talk you way into a free you if you can. How much mileage you got on the car, you migth be able to get an Infiniti extended warranty which might entitle you to one.

One more dumb question: My Q is supposed to be the sport model, how do I confirm this?

I see that most of the people on here highly suggest the extended warranty. In my experience extended warranties on products in general are generally not near worth what they cost. Is there something about the 02Q that makes it worth the money? I hope its not b/c it will soon start to fall apart!

VK45E will burn oil if OCI is extended or the engine is abused when new.

Only purchse only extended warranty backed by Infiniti.

Sport model has blue tint on backing lights.

QUOTE]Not exactly true. Oil change interval (OCI) does not appear to be related to oil burning issue. And engine "abuse" relates to improper engine "break in" which involves following old school new engine break in which requires various engine speeds, no steady state driving etc. Not foloowing this is not really the fault of the owner of a modern car-in my opinion since no other Infiniti's have had this problem.

You can see if the Lens on the back up lights has a blueish tint (the one on top of the tail light the circle one ) on it that make a Sport as well. Also the 18" wheels that came with the car.

I checked the VIN with the local dealer, it is definitely not a sport.

VIN tells all, even Infiniti Dealer performed service.

Why we always recommend readin that first before even looking at the car.

OCI not verified every 3,750 miles is a cause for concern.
