Well....I just got a 96' 240SX SE from my sister, its been in the garage for the past 6 years with only 70k on the motor. No leaks, well maintained, all service records. About as clean as they come. I wanted to know what I should do first for better performance on the motor, whats the "Best bang for my Buck" until i can replace the motor with something with a little more power. I'll post some photos soon of my project "BLACK OUT".

If it's bone stock, you're not ready to mess with the motor. Focus on handling first.

-Coilovers & Master Bushing kit with subframe bushing-brake upgrade.-wheel & tires. I prefer 18x9.5 all around on S14's.

From there, you could choose to stiffen the chassis more with additional bracing or continue building up your suspension to handle the power you want to eventually make. Bolt-on's to the KA are pointless unless you're bolting on a turbo or a supercharger, so forget the N/A route.

if your going to do an engine swap, why waste money on the stock motor? your not going to see much of an improvement over factory. my advice is do suspension first then do the swap.

There's lots to pick from. But these are the only ones I'm considering. All around $1000 to $1200.

is there really a need on his car for such a HIGH end coil?

dude would most likely be fine with a megan street or a Tein Basic etc.i agree with what the others said though, do some suspension if you dont need/want to go really low just get a good set of springs/shocks for the car. you'll have alot of fun with the car like that. Unless your planning on tracking the car alot or doing hard street driving your stock brakes are fine. maybe just run a better pad.

that's my .02

You consider those high end coils?

I consider them entry level... Megans are fine too, but way bother when there are coils with better build quality just about $200 away?

I don't even bother looking at stuff like Tein Basic. Again, just a few hundred dollar would get you so much more...

Well, I've never seen pics of the regulars maxed out. The only pics I've seen are OK, but I'd rather have the ability to go lower and not use it than want to go lower and not be able to... The middle level of KTS are cool, but the rears won't go as low as the front from what I can tell...

there not HIGH END. there most likely higher end money then what he needs. honestly a megan, fortune, ksport, etc is decent for anyone wanting to go lower and handle better.

i got Megans and there just fine and dandy.

I've had good experience with Stance coilovers. They are competitively priced and offer a lot of bang for the buck. I've been running them for a year on another car and they haven't given me any grief.

Also if you are looking to perk up the KA a little bit while you're deciding on another engine, you might think about a used intake and exhaust setup. If you buy in low and sell the parts when you do your swap, it won't really cost you hardly anything to have a little more power in the meantime. Another trick you could do is to bump your ignition timing a couple degrees. That will give you more power in the low to mid range.

+1 on megans

I'm getting Tien tie rods, pillowball are a little too much imo, and getting the energy suspension bushing kit. After that I'm start saving up for turbo

I don't mean to discourage anybody about Megan. I think they're just fine as well. In fact, I consider them in the same category as the others that I listed... just at the lower end of the scale. Still very decent though.
