I just got a 06 M35 to replace my 2004 525 that was totaled in a wreck. Anyway I liked the responsiveness of the car and it reminded me alot of the 525.

The car has the journey and technology packages on it and is stock throughout. I need to get new wheels and want to start upgrading, but i wanted some recommendations on what to do first to get the biggest bang for my buck. I am on somewhat of a limited budget, but though about LED upgrades and of course the wheels.

What would you recommend for 18" wheels and what upgrades should I start working on first?

Welcome to Nico!

The first thing I would do when buying an M this old would be making sure all the maintenance is up to date. Depending on mileage and a verified service history, I would do a transmission service, differential service, oil & filter, brake fluid change, and coolant system flush. Assuming that has been completed, there is a host of links here for mods. If you check the FAQ section and you will find details and instructions for LEDs, Suspension, Brake Calipers, Plasti-Dip, etc.
I haven't done any major mods - just a few things to make my M look different than the standard factory M. My pics are in my sig. I would also check out some other member's posts - they have links and videos of their mods. Some peeps in here have done absolutely brilliant mods on their M's.
As for wheels, if you are set on changing them, consider 19" wheels.
