Found an 02Q 15K miles on ebay and I bought it!!! Awesome power, design, comfort and I saved over $25,000 vs. 2003 model. Problem: previous owner was a smoker and every time I turn on the AC, it blasts out the smoke stink. Any suggestions to permanently get rid of this odor? Otherwise the beast is fine.:help

There are ways to flush out the AC system, I've seen it advertised in various places. One thing that has helped me in the past was to open up a couple of packs of fresh bubble gum (you, believe it or not). makes it smell nicer at least.

Remove and clean the evaporator and fan and inside of case if the filter doesn't work........be prepared for a $500 charge.

BG Frigi-Fresh or BG Frigi-Clean would be a good place to start, as well as the micro-cabin cleaner. Q45Tech's suggestion of removing the A/C evaporator is the ultimate solution, but will require evacuating the refrigerant and replacing the drier - which may be overkill depending on how much the odor bothers you. I got the smell out of my truck by removing all of the duct work, replacing the evaporator (with a used one, but cleaned it with Tilex first) and steam cleaning everything. This is an extreme solution, but I had everything apart anyway to replace the leaking evaporator and find a water leak.

Steam cleaning the carpet and headliner will greatly reduce the overall smoke odor. Some members have suggested putting several peices of charcoal (activated carbon?) in the car to absorb other odors, so that may be an option too.

Welcome to the club! You need to post pictures of your Q here soon!

Ozone generators also do a good job at removing smoke.

Not one for the lighter socket, but the larger units with fans, put one inside over the weekend and that will go a long way to reducing the odors.

One other suggestion...Use a A/C Coil cleaner on the Evaporator. You can get it pretty cheaply from and HVAC supply place. Probably save you the rediculous charge a dealer would charge you...provided you can do it yourself. I used this on my 97 as one of the owners smoked...I had to do it twice...the smell is gone now.

I hold a pest control license and there are products available that neutralize odors. We use them when for instance a rodent dies in an attic or mix them into pesticides themselves to reduce the smell. I see you are located in Miami. Check your phone book and see if you have a listing for LESCO. Call them and ask if they carry this type of product. If not email me and I can track down a source for you.JWPS congrats on the car....they are awesome!
