Just getting started

Just got a deal on a 93 s13 nissan 240. runs pretty good for 190,000 miles with the exception of being stuburn to strart in the cold and check engine light is on ( unless I drive 80 mph for a long distance).

Im not to mechanically advance but not a dumby either. I want to keep the KA24DE and rebuild it with proformance parts. Im not looking for max increase in horsepower Just enough to have fun with. Just dont know where to begin or what brand and so on.

Eventually Ill get to the body work but wanted to start with the engine and drive train. Any suggestions
