Greetings, all!

My son is just about ready to turn 16, and we've picked up a nice '92 240SX with 175K miles on her that we're going to be autocrossing. We've got most of the general maintenance items done on the car, and we've added a LSD (can't tell if it's a VLSD or not, no markings on the diff that I could find) from supposedly a '93 ABS-equipped 240SX. Nothing has stood out from a "Oh, Lord, how am I going to fix this?" category.

So, I've got a few questions. First, is there an autocross forum that aims towards the S13? Second, after we changed out the transmission fluid (first time in this car's life, from the looks of it ) we got a strong fluid smell in the interior. Since the S13's shifter is so loose I was thinking about swapping in an aftermarket shifter.

So, which one? I've got a B&M shifter in my '94 Z-28 that I've been really happy with, and I know they make one for the SX. Are there any others out there? The thing I like about the B&M is that it replaces the whole assembly, so I don't have to worry about plate covers that flex, etc. But, it's pretty expensive. Are there any others that are better, or a better bang for the buck?

And, if we're going to have to save up for the shifter, what can we do in the meantime about the fluid smell?

Thanks in advance, and have a good one,Mike

Well, we ended up splurging on a B&M shifter, ordered last night and should be in early next week. That'll take care of both problems, the sloppy shifter (are they all that way?) and the smell.

Oh, and Fabreeze? I think it wouldn't even make a dent in the smell, this smell is STOUT!

Have a good one,Mike

i had that smell too. but i had smoke comming up because the rubber boot wasnt screwed to the tunnel all the way. what i found it to be was that the transmission was too full and when i went around a corner at a high rate of speed the fluid would slosh around and come out of the top. someone must have filled it from the shifter, not the fill hole. so what i did was open the top fill hole and let the extra leak out then it was all better...
