So tonight the gf wanted to hangout with her family since she just got in for winter break, so im home looking at the forum and watching a couple youtube videos of pathy's and QX4's. One video I ran into was a Car and Driver review talking about the 2001 QX4 and the 2001 Pathy. I noticed in the video the QX4 came with the optional Navi system! I love OEM in dash navi's, so i think I just found my next mod.. Getting an infiniti QX4 nav system into my Pathy!

Im gunna do some research and check this out more indepth and let you guys know what the deal is!

Doing a simple google search I found a pic of the interior... and im thinking this is gunna be a big-e to accomplish...

The nav system sits where the A/C controls and the top part of the radio is.. So I would need a new trim plate, and would have to see the control hookups to see if I could just plug in my HVAC controls into the navi system... Also the radio is much smaller, im hoping that "small" radio has the 6cd changer in it, -- I would hate to lose that feature.

I've been meaning to tackle something like this for a while. If you can find every part from the qx4 through what ever means, then it should be a breaze....probably some what costly, but a breaze if you have the cash. I was thinking of taking say a Pioneer Z1, or Kenwood 6.5 DD, cutting my stock dash plate up, moving the A/C controls down, fiberglassing a new pannel and a ton of sanding. Slap on a couple coats of flat black paint and call it a day.

I recommend you take a trip to the Infiniti parts department, get a print out of the dash kit, navi unit, ECU/disk drive, A/C controls, etc and start searching. you should be able to find the monitor/ecu for $500 range on Ebay/craigslist, the other parts you might have to order from nissan/infiniti. good luck with your project.

Yeah im pretty excited to get something like this done.. I have to $$ to do it, but I dont know if its worth investing in old technology like this? I've heard the newer aftermarket indash nav units work sooo much better, offer things like real time traffic, etc. Plus I would hate to lose my steering wheel controls.. those come in handy

Plus that Bose stereo below the nav looks pretty cheezy.. I mean, it looks like a basic stereo you find on basic models... If only it looked a bit better... they should have deleted the cassette from it and made the screen bigger

1. THe OEM NAV sucks. I've read that buttons fall off and it's a pain to use2. With the Nav, the 6cd disappears.

Wondering if this would be an affordable option on a 1999.5 (2000). I have Bose but although the radio is huge it doesnt have 6 disc, so losing it isnt a big deal. Would need to compare costs vs aftermarket. Qxxx4 has an excellent review on youtube for his new Nav unit and I am thinking that may be a better alternative.

OH well, scratch that then! I cant lose my 6cd changer, thats priceless to me. Even with the iPod system installed I still use the CD player. I think, after hearing all this, I will probably upgrade the deck to a navigation unit, but from Pioneer, or some aftermarket company. I will buy the console the qx4 uses, because not only will I spare myself from having to cut my stock one, I also would like to have the unit above the climate controls. Where the stereo goes on the QX4 console will put the HVAC controls!

I wouldn't invest in old technology myself. Most OEM navi units i see, screens look like crap. Most good aftermarket look pretty much like "google maps" and are easier to use An aftermarket deck would use your steering wheel controls... and as far as 6-disc, come on man thats like a step above a tape player.... step your game up to mp3, never keep a single disc in your car again and you will never hear "skipping" again, when offroading. And you can have, literally, thousands of songs on tap, download at your pleasure for free and just listen in your ride.

not to mention it would sound better than 6-10 year old bose

Personally I'd take an aftermarket deck that played one single MP3 CD (about 800 mins) over a deck that played 6 "regular" CDs (about 480 mins). When my stock deck dies I'd probably be happy to have an excuse to swap it out.

If you like going to the store, buying a CD, and playing it in your Pathy, keep in mind that it's a big investment sitting there. I had about 30 CDs stolen a while ago... they probably have a near-zero resale value for the thieves, but it mean me losing a $450 investment.

Nowadays I burn a copy of a CD, keeping the original at home and putting the burnt copy in the Pathy. And if you're burning CDs anyways, may as well put 10 albums on a single MP3-CD instead of just an album each on six audio CDs.

I have wanted to do this for a long time. The only issue is that the climate controls on the Pathfinder (and probably the QX4) are slightly smaller (in width) than the head unit. So the hole for the climate controls (where there is usually that ugly tape player) will be wider than the climate controls; you'll have some pretty big holes on the left and right side of the climate controls.

If you do swap out your center dash for the NAV center dash please post some pics!

EDIT: I may be wrong here. Looking at the pic above, it looks like the tape player head unit is smaller in width than the NAV unit so maybe the hole is the same width as the climate control unit.
