I just typed a very long post with every detail i could think of and lost it when i spell checked it so if I leave anything out this time I apologize in advance!
Yes, The LCD monitor is for watching videos, but I wouldn't recommend watching while driving. Especially not the sorts of videos some of you are talking about. You wouldn't want a public indecency charge on top of a wreckless op.
I chose not to power my iPod in the car, as I tried a lighter adaptor and it introduced alternator whine. I actually don't use the connector on the bottom of the Ipod at all. I get Ipod Audio and Video through the headphone jack on top. The diagram I linked shows which leads to hook up to which pin. They sell an Ipod specific AV cable but if you have one from a camcorder or portable DVD player it will work as well. Apple just changed up the cables. Red=Video, Yellow=Left, and White=Right. (BTW, that's true of any non Apple headphones/stereo cords also, left and right are reversed)
I did come across a hook up kit that provides line level (ideal) output from the bottom connector as well as 12v in leads so you can power it in the car. If I can find the link again, I'll post it. It was around 30 bucks.
To provide the 14.4 volts to switch the HU into CD in mode I ran a lead from the cigarette lighter connector to the pin. You would want to add a switch to it.
I think that's about everything. If there's any other questions feel free.
Grant (who's surprised no one mentioned the Infiniti logo on the actual Ipod. I thought that was the coolest part of the whole deal, but hey that's just me. )
