i just finished finally swapping out the motor and i came across a problem when trying to crank it over. it just tries to crank but it wont start. At first we found out that the 5spd wiring harness i picked up, had a bad connection so we used the KA plug and now the fuel pump works....but there doesn't seem to be any spark, because its using coil-packs i don't know how to test for it, any suggestions or insight to the problem would be helpful, or how to test for spark.

not good start if you dont know what is and isnt hooked up.

ignitor maybe your issue, could be the CAS, or even an issue with something like timing or other harness issues.

check for codes. If you don't know how, read the FAQ. It's in the FSM.

I did the wiring on his car his dropping resistor is hooked up the first harness was one of those pre-wired B.S. jobs so I used the harness that came with his swap and wired it I did notice one difference was that Im using a SOHC lower harness and he is using the DOHC ka harness but there is one small thing that he is missing it has JEGS on it and has 2 wires coming out of it but I plugged mine in and still no spark the ecu threw 2 codes 34, and 43 but I believe the cas is done

we replaced the CAS, grounded the enigne to the chassis, and we tested the ECU, Coil Packs, and The Harness on the Coil packs, on a running CA18DET motor, and everything worked fine, but on my CA nothing is working at all,

we tested on the wiring harness to see if the connector to the coilpacks was getting and power and its not, which leads me to believe once again, its in the wiring harness, but that means that both the 5spd & Auto Harnesses aren't working to ignite the coil packs

Have you swapped the ignitor chip out for a new one?

the ignition chip works fine, we tested it out on the other car, with no problems. Im was wondering, when i pulled my KA wiring harness, in the glove box was a brown plug, i haven't reconnected that plug back, could that have any issue to why the car wont start up

The brown plug is your dash plug. That needs to be plugged in for sure.

update... So we finally got the car running, we swapped out the wiring harness again to the 5spd one. and she cranked over and started up. When i finally set her down off the jack stands, the started stopped working....but we could still push start and it would start.

So my problem is i cant get her to start without having to push start, it was suggested to me that i should use a SOHC KA lower wiring harness or could it still be a ground issue?

Secondly, when i got the car running, and drove it around, my temperature gauge started spiking a ridiculous amount, it mainly moved with my rpms when i gave it gas, it jumped alot. Now i think there's air in my radiator and may need to be pumped out.

Third, when i was driving and gave it some throttle, its very hesitant, and the car doesn't respond well, like i cant floor it cause if i do, she wont go anywhere. This could be a boost leak but i haven't found anything, the car jerks, heavily under heavy throttle.

What i am using on my car or have replacedDOHC Lower Harness, CA18DET 5spd Wiring harnessNew Spark Plugsreplaced the CASDOHC KA Radiator & Hoses

Ive pretty sure i've taken care of all the vacuum leaks but ill post pics of my engine bay for everyone to kinda get an idea of what im working with

s***ty running and unable to start could all be related to improper timing.

If it's timing then that means that when I replaced the CAS it could if been thrown of?I don't know anything about timing so I would have to take it to a shop or is there a writeup for basic timing issues

I just took the start out and had it tested, i went to advance auto parts and told them it was a starter out of an 88 Pulsar NX SE, and when the did the test and according to the chart, its supposed to put out 95 amps and its only putting out 50....but the guy who was doing the test was new so im not sure if he had it hooked up correctly lol

i might as well just replace the starter.

I meant timing as in your timing belt being off a tooth or two or cam gears not on point.

I think he meant it wasn't cranking over.

I'm fighting a similar problem, I just got my car back after a long storage. Anyway, I have a 95 with a ca18det in it, long story short, no spark, no fuel. Starter turns fine, but nothin happens. My ECU also doesn't get any diagnostic lights at all. I'm thinking ecu wiring is wrong. I figured that the wiring should be the same as it is for a s13 dohc engine, right? Well, not trying to jack your thread, just thinking it would be nice to compare notes with someone who knows where I'm coming from. what was the bad plug on the transmission about? Thanks!

Redo the main plugs by the battery and when you do it use the SR20det wiring write up from frsport.

Wires up just like an SR, with the exception of needing to run a wire for the knock sensor.
