As some of you know I recently had my car broken into and my stereo head unit stolen. This is what the thieves left me with...

After fabricating a new inner support for the area I found another Alpine on Craig's List for only $50 so I'm back in biz...

A bit ago I purchased a set of electric side view mirrors. I took my time installing them because I couldn't decide where to put the control (plus I can be lazy at times). I finally decided the overdrive idiot light was worthless so in about 15 minutes with my Dremel I built it a home. It came out pretty good and I think it's a lot more ergonomic that the center console where most people seem to recommend putting them. Here's a pic...

And here's a nice inexpensive mod for you. It cost on;y $12. Red tails on red verts ftmfw!

It took no time at all so if anyone has any ?'s I'd me more than happy to help out.

Also, I'm working on a fiberglass front lip that I'll be posting a few pics oif soon I hope. Depending on the response I'm considering making a mold so I could maybe sell a few if I can keep the price reasonable. Keep an eye out for it. Barring unforseen complications it shouldn't be too long now.

One last thing. I just got finished installing a rather extensive alarm system as well. It's got a starter kill, a remote start, keyless entry, 2-way paging LCD, etcetera. So if any one has any questions regarding that sort of thing, I might be able to help as well.

Really well done Glyph! Nice work.

$50 for an Alpine.. you can't go wrong with that.

I dig the mirror controls as well.

The mirrors would be nice. How much trouble was the wiring? You get the wires out of a coupe/hatch or just run your own?

(GASP!) I also have my electric mirror switch in the same place, but I didn't have a dremel so my switch is kinda hanging out for a bit. (GASP!) I also have red tails, but yours looks ten times better, what did you use on them??

i dont know what glyph used. but i put a viper alarm system on mine because it has a lifetime warranty. you just have to think about all you want it to do... the basics or all the bells and whistles. if you park a lot with the top down, i'd suggest getting motion sensor too, i really like having the trunk open on the remote too. if you have a good wiring diagram of your car and got some wiring skills you can do it yourself. or can take it to a place to do it. stay away from best buy or circuit city, they sell crap and install things crappy. trust me, i worked both places.

At first I tried running my own but it was such a pain in the @ss that I ended up picking up a harness at the junk yard. From then on it was no problem

They came with my car when I bought it. It must've been some sort of upgrade available from the dealer. Mine also had chrome oem wheels and I've often wondered if they were some sort of "upgrade package" or something. The leather's nice but due to neglect by the previous owner it's drying out and cracking. I'd really like to replace the rear. hint, hint.
Ihiryu wrote:I also have red tails, but yours looks ten times better, what did you use on them??
I used Testors "Candy Apple Transparent Red" (2 coats; wish I'd done 3 or 4) and Testors "Transparent Overcoat" I hope it's not illegal to have all red tails though I think it is. Oh well, screw 'em it looks good.

I'd really like to pm you regarding the trunk and headlights as I have that option on mine. I was a bit fuzzy on their directions though and so I could use some help. Is that alright?

Like JamesBlonde said "you can't go wrong with a Viper". DEI makes the best out there. If you're on a budget however; I went with the Autopage RS860. I got it off Craig'sList for $75. Yeehaw. It does all the same only it won't let me use my old DEI backup battery Something to do with it's having all the relays already built in. It did however allow me to use the proximity sensor off my old Viper which is a must with a vert. You get within 2 inches and you get a "warn away", cross the invisible plane of the window and it goes off. I've got 3 sirens (all well hidden) inc. 1 up under dash and IT IS loud. I would not however recommend anyone installing your own alarm unless you have extensive experience and an intimate relationship with your car's electronics. One mistake and it may never start again

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys.

man i never knew that it was an upgrade option! Man didn't come with leather seats and i am the second owner of my 240 vert and going to keep it forever. So i was going to switch out the stock seats and get leather seats front and rear. I never knew that was an upgrade package. Thanks

Testors is a brand most often found in hobby shops ie. the kind of place that sells remote control cars, helis, planes as well as models etc. There's a brand that you can find at auto parts places that supposedly works just as good though I've never tried it. I believe the brand name is Plasti-Kote.

Glad to hear it. Testor's worked like a charm. I just scuffed/cleaned 'em up a bit with very fine wet/dry sand paper, cleaned all the oils etc with rubbing alcohol, then 3 coats of paint and two of clearcoat. Like I said, I wish I'd done 2-3 more of paint as then it would have been a perfect match color wise. Good luck.

JAMES, Thanks for posting the pics for me. I was all set to do it the other day 'til I realized the diff between a trunk pop solenoid/actuator and a door lock/unlock solenoid which is all I had lying around (one moves then resets and the other moves 2 directions (lock and unlock). All the places in my area that carry them sell them for $50 - $65. I found one online for $20 shipped. What a difference. But now I have to wait a few days to do it One thing I did realize though is that with the switch thrown that disables opening the trunk from inside the car, I won't be able to hook it to the cable like you did as that will no longer make contact with the latch to unlock it. I'm gonna have to get a bit creative. I'll let you know what I end up doing. Once again, thanks for your help.

actually i didn't use the lever cable, drilled a hole in the latch right above where the lever cable attaches and screwed the cable for the actuater there. i just noticed you can't see that part in the pics, doh! good luck! 20 bucks is awesome for the actuater good job.
