Just did my timing chain guide, found something interesting..

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

Well, my freind and I just took the guide out. Process went relatively smoothly, except for me dropping a bit of old sealant in the engine, oh well. My engine has around 100k on it, and this is the first time I've pulled the valve cover. The inside of the engine looks amazing, like new. Anyway..

I was looking at the guide, and realised it is made of metal...not the plastic that everyone complains about. There is plastic, but it's only the part the chain runs over, is that what everyone has a problem with? I don't see how that would snap off and fall into your engine.

Anyway here is a pic, is this the factory guide? Also, ignore the bubbles, that's just water from me cleaning it off.

Yeah, that's the problematic one. It's impressive that yours isn't broken.

How can it break, most of it is metal? And yeah, the wear isn't that bad on it I don't think...engine only has 100k on it.

Hell if I know. Mine was snapped in half, and the top part was riding on the chain. It was quite munched up when I took it out.

Haha that's crazy, at least it didn't drop into the oil pan.

i took the guide out of mine a couple days ago and it had just enough wear so that you could see where the chain had been hittin it. and it has 174k miles.

Well, here's the way I see it. It's hot in there. A chain travelling very fast is rubbing up against it. You try sticking to metal on a chain travelling at those speeds and see what happens.
