Just did motor swap and car wont start.... PLEASE 240 ADVICE

Ok so heres my problem.... My friend had bought a 89 S13 coupe that was an automatic with a single cam motor, but had a sunroof.. HAHA But then the car went through a nice change, we got a 5 speed transmission, all the lines pedals, and clutch cyl. Did the swap it was good.. So we then went after the motor, pulled the single cam KA out and put a 96 S14 Twin Cam in it, did the harness, everything was done correctly double and tripple checked... Made sure the cam timing and everything was fine, did the timing for the distributer... We pumped all the old fuel out of the tank, circulated new fuel untill it was clean, put new plugs in.. Checked compression everything seemed fine..Then went to go turn the motor over, and the car just sputters.... It wants to crank so bad but starts making a mellow thump sound , car will not start... After a minute of trying to start the car, flames star shhoting out of the manifold???? What could it be????? Please we have to get this car running.... Thanks in advance...

What ECU are you running?

We just recently done a '98 S14KA swap into my boyfriend's '89 auto coupe and had the same problem. It would try to start but there was no power being fed through the spark plugs.

I'm going to do the best I can to remember but I believe the problem was solved after the ECU was changed to a KADE S13 and the same with the distributor too (needs to be from a KADE S13). Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in. Good luck

No wer're getting spark to the plugs, its runnig an s13 ecu, just spliced into the harness.... Im LOST.....

Yay they got the car running today, it was the timing in the distributer.... YAAAAAAYYYYY...
