Has anyone converted a g35x to manual transmission? Or heard of it? I was wondering what the costs might be like. Im sure it would involve a lot of custom fabbing, but Im interested to know. I dont even know where to begin looking.

Not a cheap road for this mod. I've seen it done on older G35's and the costs were around 10k.

To do it right, you need:

New transmission
New ECU
New main wiring harness
custom fab work

And lots more...

You're much better off selling your AUTO and buying a 6MT...unless you have 10-20 thousand in mods.

I don't think it would work. Its the AWD feature that is the problem.

You would be the only person who has gone that route if you decide to try it. I highly doubt you will be able to do it without dumping way too much money into it. You'd be much better off building the trans, and turbo'ing the car - which would probably cost less in the end anyways.

People have done this with RWD 5AT to 6MT for $3-6K before, but not with the AWD system. You can't just swap the ECU's and harnesses. You'd have to change coding in the ECU and modify the stock wiring harness. All which would be very expensive as you'd be the pioneer.

That sounds like an awful but kind of fun project.

the output shaft would have to be swapped for a custom fabbed adapter. Unless it were to be a perfect (within 0.001")match a new set of drive shafts might be needed, along with mounts and a few other things.

Wiring wouldn't be as much of a problem since the only wires on an MT are the reverse position sensor and tail shaft speed signal. There are no CAN lines running into the trans as they are on an MT....However that brings up a whole new set of issues. The ecm would have to go, but there is no AWD MT in the states so finding an ecm that would not only run without a check engine light but even start would be a challenge.

If I had to guess at a total price I would say 8-10k maybe less but most likely more. Labor would be the biggest factor, if it were a diy project it would probably take a month at least in ideal conditions.

-Hey OP- What are you bypassing?

Too much work...look into a VB mod for the transmission. Maybe get some paddle shifters off ebay or something?

It being unique is the reason I was inquiring. If I could find a way for it to be done for 10k or so and a deal on labor I would seriously think about doing it. I was just fantasizing about AWD, manual, and forced induction... mmmmm. When I get some time off work I plan on seriously investigating the possibility of it. Thanks for the input. If nothing else I still plan on supercharging her before too long. I havent added any new mods in almost a year, been busy with work.
