No leaks. car is consuming oil. I use valvoline synpower full synthetic and run a 7500 mile drain. My versa was bought in July 06 and is one of the first ones off the line in hotwater mexico. It's also been getting crappy mileage. Has anyone heard anything about the piston rings? I heard Sentra had a recall once for leaky piston rings.

The 1.8 and 2's are the good engines, some of the v6 engines i heard have a burning oil issue.

VQ35 has been known to have some blow-by. Newer engines also use oil as they break in and seat themselves, altho I would assume at 15k it should be broke in.

I'd question the dealer and simply continue on your regular oil changes. It happens.

How did you measure the oil that came out? Do you include the oil trapper in the filter?

Buring a 1/2 quart between changes isn't very ususual. Most of cars have needed a small amout added on occasion. If you burned a full quart, I'm suprised you haven't been adding any oil. Do you check your oil regularly? Have you noticed the level being low? I beleive the difference form the full mark to the low mark is less than 1 quart.

You probably have one quart still dispersed between the filter, and in the motor valleys. Even though the oil pan stops dripping, there is going to valleys and pools of oil internally in the motor, that is not going to be circulated in the motor, unless its pressurized.

Before jumping to any conclusions, I (and a few others unanimously) suggest checking the oil regularly. First, check immediately after the oil change, and be sure to be parked on a level surface. Check the oil after every other fillup, and keep track of the levels. Do not add any oil unless you're in the "low" range for this test. If you are truly losing oil, it will be noticed within 1500 miles. My car (built 12/06) lost a trivial amount for the first 6,000 miles or so, and now doesn't lose any at all. It's normal for a new motor to burn oil, but 1 quart is ridiculous.

That's right, if the dealer screws up, they'll replace the engine with a factory crate motor... if Jiffy Lube screws up, you might wind up with a 1992 Ford Tempo motor stuffed into the engine bay with zipties and duct tape. So far, my dealer has put the correct amount of oil every time.

Something has to be said for the Valvoline guys... whenever I had the oil changed in my frontier, it was like watching a three-ring circus when it came to replacing the oil filter... they always had a hard time with it, and it generally involved three "lube techs" and a manager. Once, while they were in a "huddle" discussing the matter, I got out of the truck, took the filter off, and handed it to them without saying a word.

Jiffy Lube ruined my sister's car(misinstalled oil filter let all the oil drain out or something)--and left her stranded in BF'ing-nowhere Iowa. She had to take them to court to try to get them to pay for her new engine, but still lost the case. Valvoline ruined my transmission in my Taurus(I know, it would have happened eventually anyway, but maybe not at 10:30 at night on a dark highway. Crappy Ford.)

Hard to know who to trust anymore.

Like my mother says:Want to save your soul? Go to God.Want to ruin your engine? Go to Jiffy Lube.
