hey guys,

just put some brembo blanks up front and HAWK HPS pads all around, now i got a question, because the rear rotors are old and rusty, would it be normal that they are warmer after driving around normally then the front ones? because the rears were feelably hotter then the front rotors when i drove around today.

also, between 25-40 mph, there is this squeaky noise i believe from the rear brakes, it only happens when i accelerate or cruise(sometimes) at those speeds. when i brake there is no noises at all. is this because of the floating caliper and the brake pads always jiggling around? or should i take the brakes apart again?

The noise problem you say comes from the rear is common ie, brake pad chatter. Not life threatening, if that's what it is, which it probably is.

Not sure why the rears would be warmer than the fronts, assuming all else is equal. The brake bias front/rear is obviously heavily in favor of the fronts, as it is with all cars

ya i realize that front is a lot more biased so thats why i was wondering why the rear brakes were warmer... brake pad chatter huh... how do they move around, the caliper seems to hold it in pretty tight.

It's not really something you can look at and say, "hey, my pads look like they're chattering!" so unless you're underneath cars for a living, it's really easy to miss. The tell tale signs are when cruising you hear it, when braking you don't, while the pads are being clamped to the rotor.

If the rear rotors were rusty or not resurfaced before putting on the new pads, it will cause noise and may not allow the pads to bed in correctly. You should always start with a new clean surface on the rotors. That's likely why they are generating so much heat, they aren't happy .

Did you adjust your parking brake? Any time I have replace the rear pads and had to turn the rear pistons back into the caliper, I have had to adjust my parking brake. Otherwise my rear brakes would drag. One time I think I almost caught the pads on fire... they were smoking when i stopped to check em out.

anywho, try that and see if it helps

I'd take a look at the parking brake thing as well. That sounds like a definite possibility to me given the extra heat generated and the fact that the sound stops when you're actually braking.

Also, did you replace or at least re-use your factory shims?

BTW, I just put on some Brembo OE-style rotors up front and Hawk HPS pads. They're not as whisper quiet as OE, but they're pretty damn quiet.

Bedding the pads was the most fun I had in a long time. Tearing up and down an empty parking slot and enjoying the smell of newly bedded brake pads.
