Do you know of any kits to make a transmission sturdier? I don't know if I should go through with it either way i'm going to need it financed. He said the torque converter failed and it was scoring and damaging the rest of the transmission with metal pieces so he can't salvage the transmission. Or i can just pay him the $300 and put the transmission back and say fok it and try and return the car....the price seems very high to me. Any thoughts should I go through with it knowing i still have to redo the valve cover and chain guide? Craig
Craig, if the $2,500.00 includes the torque converter, and a full flush of the radiator, AND a 3 year warranty, it sounds like an OK deal, to me. Have them check the pressure drop through the radiator, or just replace it. Add the transmission cooler at the same time. Don't wait. Most of the damage done to a transmission, is done in the first 10,000 miles. Heat is the enemy of trannys.
If you decide to not fix it, don't pay Cottman for labor to re-assemble it. Just get your car back.
A transmission wiht 56K on it, is usually a lie. It's more like 100K, and will probably start failing, in about 10K miles.
Once you get past this, you will be happy with the car.
