I just picked up a 99 QX4 with 180k miles. I needed a vehicle that was a bit more practical than my coupe.
I just gave it a tune up (plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter) replaced the distributor, replaced the shocks and struts (you'd never know, stupid sensa-tracs fricken blow), replaced the strut mounts, some suspension links, and tie rod ends. The freaking exhuast was rattling terribly so I ripped off the heat shields (what was left of them anyway, rust). Then I took it in to a shop and had them change the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, acc. drive belts and a pulley. It's also got a new set of Pirelli ATS tires mounted (255/70-16).
Is there anything you guys think I missed? I don't want to touch the trans given the age and unknown history...the fluid is a shade of pinkish brown, and doesn't smell bad.
So far, I really like this truck, but I find it hard to believe it was close to 40K in 1999. Feels like a $28k truck, which is great since I've only got 1/3 that amount invested in it.
