Hey guys,

I just bought an JDM VH45De for my 92 Q. I am trying to get a sense of what I should look at replacing on this motor before we put it in. I have looked through some old posts but would appreciate if you could point me to any existing lists or just make suggestions in terms of must do's, would be nice to do's, and of course blue sky suggestions:

Go.

check "tenderness" of hoses, all gaskets, most (if not all) hoses, transmission fluid, injectors, knock sensors/harness, i mean comon now this is just a start. I mean hell, how do you know the engine hasn't been screwed by someone that let it overheat. What do you want this engine to do? if you want full longevity you have to pull the piston rods replace rings, pumps, timing chain ETC.... COMPLETE overhaul or........ There are so many things you have to consier. You have to look at it many different ways....

Actually most JDM pull outs are usually in good shape. Japanese replace engines far more often then we do, in fact back in the day with timing belt changes required I remember a Japanese buddy that worked for my company telling me that they just "replaced the motor" instead of paying the labor to do timing belt changes.

Still while you have it out of the car I would check and freshen up anything that is wearable. The value cover gasgets are probably toast, pulling the heads off should give you a good idea of what your dealing with, but I'll bet you it is in good shape.

Thanks for the reply BadQ45,

It's coming with a 90 day warranty but I hope it is in good shape. The seller claims it has 45k on it. I found a post by q45 tech and have started a list of changes that I'll do while its out: hoses, belts, injectors, water pump, motor mounts?, front and rear main seals?, and check for timing chain guides. One question though is whether my 92 ECU is compatible with 90 through 95 vh45de?
