hi everyone,

just bought a new oem nissan cat for my car, and once i look at the inside of it, theres literally nothing there, hollow. i was under the impression that its a 3-way scrubber, but behold as i said, u can peek and nothing is there, where as vs. my other cat a high flow one, has meshes and screens inside of it ( most say its only 2 way scrubber). my question is, is this how oem cats r for 95 240sx? and if so why would anyone would replace it with a test pipe when this is hollow? i am surprise, i just wasted $$$ thinking the oem cat that came with my car was gutted and bought a high flow one. when that didnt help out, i opt to buy a new oem cat from one of our sponsor to help with my dilemma, but after geting a hold of the new oem cat, i am having 2nd thoughts, has anyone can verify if stock oem cats are hollow or has meshes/screens inside of it.

thanks

mel

Sounds more like the resonator or the "fake cat" to me. My 93 had the mesh screens on it. Where did you buy the cat? And what exactly does receipt say? It's a possibility they shipped the wrong part.

The S14 has a catalytic converter built into the 2nd part of the exhaust manifold. I believe CA emissions cars also had a 2nd cat located in the normal place. However this means the rest of the federal emissions S14's have hollow "cats".

S14's have 2 cats, the real on is right after the exhaust manifold like NF said... The one under the driver seat is a fake cat....

From what I researched about it... The S14's in Canda had both cats but the US only required one so we got a dummy cat...

I saw it when I put my N1's on and didn't see the need to get a high flow or straight pipe.. just waist of money because our cats are already str8 pipes...

so I think you just waisted your money.. sorry.

my s13 came with a hollow cat, being thats its the stock one and the car is canadian. so i think it goes both ways for s13's and 14's

so seeing that if i still had the oem manifold and midpipe i could just replace the dummy cat with a test pipe? would it make the exhaust note any louder? And where is this actual cat at? is it in the midpipe or am I not understanding something?
