Just bought an Escort 8500 x50 - Newbie to radar....advice/pointers?

Just bought a new radar/laser detector, I am new to the whole thing, but I think I made a wise choice in my selection. What advice can you guys give to someone who has no idea how to use it so they can start using it right away?

I used to use 'em for years, but now I dont speed as much anymore and I dont like those suction cups that are common method of attachment now.

Keep in mind, that its your best tool, to detect a cop, a when there is enough traffic, that he will use it eevry once in a while to look at folks.

So if there is 0 traffic utility is limited, as no radar hits traffic in front for you to detect.

but if some traffic is in front, within a a half mile to a mile, it works real well, powerful tool in most driving situations.

Just change the display to the advanced setting if you want to track more than one radar source.

Note that POP detection is disabled by default. It is difficult to say, but I think it has only provided false alerts for me. Laser works, but you are usually dead when it does.

So far, I have mounted it high above the mirror on the driver's side. Probably limits rear laser detection, but better than on the dash for range.

So if I switch it to automatic mode the POP will be enabled along with all other modes?

Have you seen the Shifter ZR3 Laser Defense System for Escort 8500? That would be sweeet!! Definetely next on the list.
