i just bought the S14 SR20DE earlier this week.I know thats its less powerful than the KAbut i have my reasons for going that route.

a guy around here has a N/A sr in his vert. and boosted it.said he had to drill 2 holes into the block

i don't know if i want to boost since im building up another KA to boost.

The SR has around 40k on itIts Lighter than the KAand its different.. since no one around here runs na srs in 240s

my questions:

How Much Lighter than the KA is it?How much HP and torqe does it make?

What things can i do to make it a little stronger than the stock KA.(cuz thats what i want to do)

internally how different are the DE and DETs

thanks for the help.

nice project if you manage to get both engine sets weighed please post up some numbers, I would also like to see an average tankfull mpg out of this engine.

I WOULD NOT drill into the block! You could just as eazy get an oil outlet adapter and tap the oilpan for the return! Unless you have a PRO do it for you! The Sr20det is 30lbs. or so lighter than the Ka24de. -- a turbo and hardwhere and your sr20de is about 60 lbs. or so lighter than the ka24de.

I know the Sr20de dont have piston oil sprayers that spray oil under the pistons to keep them cool or extra oiling holes in the main bearings for better oiling! It also has a thinner headgasket for a less boost friendly compression ratio! All these would be great things to upgrade but would cost ALOT!!! !!! Relly, you should add up the cost diffrance of at least these up grades and gettin a REAL sr20deT! Ive seen Sr20de's all motor do these upgrades to get rid of these week points that Nissan did a great job doing fron the factory for the turbo motors!

thanks for the info supreamS14

i don't plan on boosting this motor anymore

i honestly want to see how well it reacts to bolt ons firstthen go from there

would it be smart to go with a thicker head gasket?a head gasket replacement form the DET motors

no its not smart to do that. if your not boosting why would you lower the compression and lose power. keep it like factory.

i understand that nowhad a lil talk with someone that knew these things.

My goal is to raise compression if i wan to keep it N/A which is what im probably going to do.

someone said that to have a more useful power band to find a rear end that has a 4.38 or something like that final Drive vs my 4.08 or something that i have.

where could i get the rear end with that final drive?is it out of a nissan car?

and another question.

what exactly does these motors rev out to?redline?

The RWD R32's and the CA18 180sx had a 4.3 final drive and VLSD rear end..

And that engine you got is rated at 160ps and redline's at 7,000rpm'sThese engine's responed very well to simple mods like intake,Header,Cams....Get it NA man for sure.

If you want to raise the compression you can remove the head,Add a thin headgasket and get the head and block shaved down..
