Bought a 1999 Q45 Saturday. WOW what a car. Looked for months for a good condition first generation with no joy. There was a 2003 M45 in the running but had more miles, ghetto wheels(not the cool ones) and a nasty repo on the car fax. That 4.5 was a beast though!! I also looked at the 2002 I35. There was just not enough room in the back, very nice Maxima though.. I ended up with a 1999 Gery on black Q45. She has 81K, bone stock, creme puff of a car. The "grandma' owned car! I couldn't be happier! Even the leather is PERFECT! Only the 4.1 but we can't have it all...

Going throught the bring her up to stock condition parts order now and wanted to ask the experts for help!
1. plugs?
2. plug wires look good but...?
3. K&N air filter
4.fuel filter

what else would you guys do or be looking at?

Thanks for your help and you will be seeing more from me in the future...

1.) Download the FSM! http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45/ Only use the NGK PFRG11!
2.) Plug wires? Really? :nono: Save for coil packs.
3.) OEM from Joe http://www.infinitipartsusa.com never use an oiled filter in front of the MAF sensor!
4.) Yes, from Joe. Change now. I prefer the M1 oil filter. Get cabin filter also. At least annual changes on all filters, more often on engine.

It is SOP for experienced members to exchange all fluids of unknown provenance. Differential, Power steering, ATF, engine. Interior air filter.
Also consider adding an auxiliary ATF cooler. Skibane has an excellent post. Search for it and read it.

www,summitracing.com has the ATF coolers, either a B&M 70628 or a 70624 depending where you locate it.

Call Infiniti of Scottsdale for your parts (the link in my post above this one) and tell them you are a Niconaut. If you do actually get Joe,Tell him hello form me.

Yeah not much here on FGY33, but most of Q45tech's principles of maintenance apply no matter what the car.

Email me anytime as I am not around much anymore.

old post revive! I have developed a miss at idle or it feels like a miss. It used to only do it when the ac was on and it was hot outside....now pretty much all the time. Plugs were changed a while ago but feels oddly like a bad plug. My local shop only has NGK •PFR5G-11 not the recomended PFRG-11. Has anyone tried these and had good results...suggestions about the "misfire-Stumble". She is a '99 Q45 (of course!)

If the currently installed plugs have less than 60,000 miles on them, almost 99.9999% chance your stumbling issue IS NOT caused by the plugs. Coil packs are the usual problem on this series Q.

PFR5G or PFR6G is the correct plug depending where you live.

Coil packs for sure. Start looking for the best price on OEM by Hitachi. I got mine off eBay from FCP Groton for less than Joe could deliver them.

Still got the K&N? If so ditch it for OEM, check MAF hot wires for contamination and clean only if necessary, check MAF connector and wiring into it. Do all of this first.

My 99 has had an "occasional" rough idle for over two years. The standard response here is to replace the coils. Sure, they're only about 100 each and you need eight last time I checked.

So before you rent out the old lady to pay for them put some Techron gas tank additive into a tank of high quality high test from a high traffic gas station. You might have to do it twice.

I have always had luck doing this. I'll get 6 months or so before it chirps again. My car has original coils and 193,000 miles. When it stumbles its always light and intermittent. When it gets heinous I'll break out the C note. Till then Advance Auto.

There is a boat load of info on 97-2000's with a rough idle on this site. Good luck.

I did the same and it worked...The intermittent part (and the $100 a shot) dictated that I try this first. It is behaving like a Z-car and it's IAC -idle air control valve problems. Maybe a good clean when I have the time with some solvent....For now it is an acceptable occasional occurrence. I just broke into the 90K range..hope I have another 100K like you!

Just keep the fluids changed, only use premium unleaded and don't be shy with the Techron and or other high quality gas additives. I have 95k on my 97' and it idles smooth as silk. I only use Amsoil transmission, rear end, brake, and power steering fluids and only burn 91 octane gas. Don't listen to the idiots in the newspaper that say your wasting your money, your not.

If you keep fluids changed you'll be fine. BTW, depending on where you live is the key to the transmission cooler. I live on San Mateo Coast in SF Bay Area, it is not ever hot here and I never added one. But I only use Amsoil or Redline since 40k in 2000 when I bought it, transmission is smooth as can be and solid as a rock. If you live in Texas or AZ I would add one for sure.
BTW, if grandma never replaced the shocks and struts those are pretty much shoot. There are not many options for you replacement wise, if you have the electronic touring shocks you have to go OEM. If yours are not adjustable then you can get KYB SR Specials from memoryfab.com...just call them. These are cheaper and better then OEM.
