Welcome to NICO. What was your previous Infiniti model?
As I recall, your Owner's manual says that 91 is recommended, but that the car can use 87 or 89 with reduced performance. (If it were an M45, then I would stay do 91 or higher for sure!)
Given that the typical difference of gas prices and typical amount of monthly driving, you might spend an extra $10-15 per month on gas with 91 instead of 87. Since this you probably bought this car for its luxury and performance, this is a choice you should be able to make pretty easily!
Plus, given that we sometimes get bad gasoline at some stations, it might be better to err on the higher side regardless.
Finally, on my wife's Acura CL, the manual says that 86 is fine! Yet, with careful checking, I have found that we get over 325 miles per tankful with 91 and closer to 275 to 280 with 87 ... all city driving. This difference makes up for the price difference in gasoline ... easily! I do not know if this would be the same for an M35, but you could test the theory out!
