I've been looking at laptops for about the past 5 months waiting for the best deal. I finally settled on one and couldn't be happier.

Dell Inspiron 700m:

-12.1" WXGA+ widescreen-Intel Pentium M 725 (1.6GHz & 400FSB)-512 MB DDR SDRAM (1 DIMM)-30 GB HD-Windows XP Home-Combo Drive (24x CD-RW/DVD)-Intel Pro Wireless 2200-65 Whr 8-cell battery-3 year limited warranty with mail-in service-3 year accidential damage complete care-nylon carrying case

The best part? It weighs 4.1 pounds!!!

I'm so stoked about this. It was an awesome deal too. 4 offers expire at 6am this morning that I used:

-$200 mail-in rebate on Inspiron notebooks-Save $250 on a laptop priced $1,999 or more-Save 5% on a 700m-Free shipping on all Inspiron notebooks

It should ship Dec. 1 at the latest.

$1,509.21 including shipping and tax.

Not bad for a laptop w/ 3-year warranty IMO. Plus, I'm going use the piss out of it in law school starting Fall 05.

Great, now all you need is a standalone sytem to tune with it, and a twin turbo setup for the standalone to run.

After playing new games like Far Cry and Doom 3 on both a Pentium and an Athlon 64 based system (same video card, same RAM numbers, same everything but CPU essentially), I will NEVER buy a pentium based computer again, even extended battery life is not a good enough tradeoff for the loss in performance. If it wasn't for the fact that DeLL only uses Pentiums, I'd have bought this already.

Still a nice laptop, though. Lightness is always a plus. What's the video card does it have?

Well what you have to understand is that this is a laptop that I'm using for mobility only. I still have my Athlon desktop I'm using right now and it's not going anywhere.

The only graphics the laptop will be using is playing DVDs.

Heh, thought you got free shipping

Congrats, wish I had the cash to buy a new laptop. Mine is going on it's 4th year of service, and is not what it used to be.

That's nice man! You know the only way it saves the battery is when the cpu speed runs on the low setting meaning it will run slower than 1.6. The setup has a way to set the cpu speed up or turn off the m feature.
