I got a '90 240 with the SOHC, now I bought the msd btm and am wondering if I need the tach adepter for it with my car? I think I read somewhere I do but Im not sure. Also should I even touch my base timing since Im going to be running the BTM or should I just leave it at 15Deg. Im planing on runing only 10PSI. Also if anyone cares Im running the MSD Blaster SS I don't know if that has anything to do with it but just thought id mention it, since the BTM os connected to it hehe

no, you dont need a tach adapter unless you're installing a new ignition on your motor.

the BTM shouldn't interfere w/ the tach. how do you have yours wired up? I read your post but it's confusing. the BTM shouldnt retard timing at idle so you've either got a malfunctioning BTM, have it wired wrong, or there's something else causing the motor to sound retarded as you put it.

The wiring is very very simple, there are only 3 wires besides ground that you need to hook up. The green/black wire on the coil gets cut. From the BTM: Orange goes to the green/black on the plug on the coil. White goes to green/black on the harness. Red splices into the red/black wire on the harness.

Black goes to ground.

The BTM has performed similarly on others SOHC KAs, where it would retard timing immediatly. It's not me, lol. There is something about SOHC ignition (some transistors in the coil and etc etc etc) that make it a little odd to hook up piggybacks to. Maybe it's certain years which used different brand components (Mitsubishi, etc).
