So i just purchased a Jdm engine. The motor came out of a automatic TT and its going into my manual TT car. The crank from the rear looks like it has a extra metal piece for the torque converter, where the pilot bushing it suppose to go into. Can I remove that metal piece? Has anyone had any experience with this issue. Thanks-Ricky

Yes, that spacer is pressed into the crank about 1/4". I believe a slide hammer is the tool of choice, though I drilled mine.

Did you drill from the middle of the bearing and go out to the side of it? I was also reading about using a chizzle and a hammer how would I be able to do that? And would a pilot bearing remover also work or is it to logged in there? -Ricky

I drilled front to back, but it's easy to go too far and damage the crank. Basically turned the circle spacer into a 'c'.I've seen a write-up out there where someone drilled a small hole, straight thru the sides of the spacer (in front of the crank) and fashioned a puller with a small allen wrench through the drilled spacer holes to pull on.

I've never used a pilot bearing remover, sounds like it would do the trick. It's not pressed in incredibly tight, just hard to get ahold of with simple hand tools.

i used a pilot bearing puller from autozone but had to file the ends that go into the back side of the crank because the tool was too large...worked well once everything fit right..i was told to drill it and use a puller but decided against it.

I ended up doing the same thing worked like a charm. It kind of sucked because the first one i rented was broken, and I had to go back for another one. It seriously took less than a minute to pull it out. Thanks everyone for your help.
