well yesterday i ran across an amazing deal. A black 91 DSM turbo 5spd that has 131k and is IMMACULATE. inside looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. The paint is orange pealed to hell but is brand new. Since i knew the guy, i bought the car for $75o . yep, thats it(i planned to buy it and re-sell it and make about 1.5k). My friend has a 99 n/t eclipse, and wanted the car soo badly, but didnt have the money, so i bought it) and am going to sell it to him as soon as he gets the money. I was driving the car (much quicker than my 24o :() and noticed it would cut the boost off from me. It only did this around 5.5-6k or so. Just thought id share, and if anyone knew what maybe wrong (fuel pump going?/the check engine light comes on when this happens) it would really help. Thanks- Rob

P.S - did i mention i HATE that this ugly (but clean ;)) lil dsm is faster than my 24o that i put so much blood sweat and tears into. But i must admit, now i see why dsm guys like em so much, they're pretty cool little cars, i wish i had a use for it, but my parents arent too happy that i have 3 cars and am only 17, and besides, when my best friend gets it, itll be 'our' other project car, but the **** will sit in his driveway ;)

Hotness. Congrats on the buy, and have fun with it for however long you keep it. 1st gen DSM's are by far the best of the bunch.

As far as the boost loss- Are you sure you aren't over-boosting? Wastegate might be releasing the over-produced boost... Or I'm not sure of DSM's have a pop-off valve like my Z does... if you go over like 7 lbs it will release all pressure in the intake manifold and the car will bog out.

well turns out my friends not getting it, so now im selling it. Also, the turbo boosts to about 12-13 psi in all gears, and then just cuts off everynow and again at about 6k or so. When i first start it up and run it hard, i have no problems, but after running for awhile, it gives me cra, i figure maybe its a heating problem?

that article was from Super Street's (i think it was stupid street, may have been Turbo or HIC) "Powerplants" special. They ran a few cars through some dyno barages to catalogue the power changes from a particular upgrade path

well ive had it for a whole 3 or 4 days now, and guess what, it wont boost anymore. Either hte turbo crapped out, or i have a crack in the manifold., or my wastegate is stuck on full open, i gotta trouble shoot today. It gets above vacuum, and hits '0' but doesnt boost at all in any gear or anyhting, any help is appreciated- Rob

p.s- DSM's suck, thank you

I have a friend in Wis who owns a DSM 1st gen (his 2nd).

A memorable quote: "DSM: Making mechanics out of ordinary people since 1989"

DSM"s make insane power, the 1st gen's 4g63 is a bit more reliable than the 2nd gen, but still a DSM motor, hence parts for them are cheaper than for 240's. (He gets a good laugh when i tell him how much i pay parts)

yea, my CD player said that, but i was like 'F'it, and hit the second nitrous button.actually as funny as that may sound, i think my boost problem may be a crack in the manifold or something. Im going to take a look at it soon, and put it on a scanner wednesday and pull codes. I may end up buying a new 14b turbo and selling it afterwards, im determined to get it running well before i sell it, and like i said, ill make money, so i can throw a couple hundred at it w/ out worries. Someone told me my wastegate may be stuck on 'full open', i checked the rod to the wastegate, and it wont move, so that may very well be it. Any suggestions, please??!!
