I just bought a Forest Green 1993 J30 Trg. today. It's got 130,000 and a new transmission, rotors, breaks, exaust, etc. I paid $1000. It runs great and really like this car but I've got some problems...

1st and most importantly, The passenger headlight and high beam dont work...though the turn signal works. The drivers side high and low lights work selectivly. Both bulbs were replace today before I bought the car.

2nd the stereo has been removed form the vehicle therefore the a/c and heat are not functional. I tried to install a CD player tonight but the stereo nnor the climate controls worked. (are the hazard lights wired seperatly from the heat and a/c ... they worked from the get go)

3rd the map light/sunroof control area has a little (?hopefuly) leak...the switches do not work (probably a short from the water leaking) Maybe jsut the weather strippin and a new motor?I havent had it out in the rain myself yet, so I hope it's a slow leak or I can get it fixed quit...how much work is stripping? what does a motor run a a junkyard? How much work does it entail?

4th when i poured washer fluid into the washer fluid tank...it backed up quickly and still did not work...what the hell could be stuck in there!? lol Maybe theres a kink in the hose??Hmmm...I know there are more things...when I remember, I will post them!!

Thanks in advance!!!!Jess

Do a search for "headlight relay". It's a known J gremlin easily fixed.

Anything to do with the sunroof is basically a minimum two full days of solid work. I would check to see if your drains are clogged. Use a forced air can to gently unclog the sunroof drains.

Sounds like you bought yourself a fixer-upper.

1. The headlight problemSince it's obviously no the bulb, it's an electrical problem. Check the fuses (there are two sets, one under hood, and one under dash near parking brake). I've attached the page from the factory service manusl that shows where the cabin fusebox is...beware, it is a ***** to get to. After checking the fuses, look behind the headlights for any obviously loose wires.

2. The AC/Heater problemThe AC/Heater control unit is usually bolted to the radio head unit. Did your car come with the control unit but not the head unit? If so, then the AC and heating should work fine, so long as all the electrical harnesses are properly attached to the control unit. There are at least two electrical harness that are supposed to connect to the control unit. It might be a little confusing because there are lots of harnesses left over that aren't connected to the head unit.

Hope that helps.

The headlight relay located under the dash is a well known problem spot on 93 and 94 Js. The replacement part is the same new and improved relay that was installed OEM on95 and later Js. That is the first place to start.

I don't see anywhere on that diagram where the headlight relay is located under the dash. I was under the impression that it was in the fender well

Might be talking about different things. I posted that diagram to show where the fusebox was located.

I have owned two J30s in the past. One was a 1993 and the other one was a 1995. They both had the same problem you are describing.

Your headlight relay is bad. I bought from Infiniti for about $40 each.

Its like the size of a cigarette box. Its a black plastic box.

It sounds complicated, but its really not. Its located on the driver side of the engine bay. Its behind the strut tower/wheel.

1. Remove the driver side front tire. Although you dont have to, it will be much easier if you did.

2. Locate three nuts in the wheel well. They will probably be black in color. They should be on the right side of the wheel well. Loosen the nuts and remove.

These nuts hold the power steering pump in place. The pump needs to removed in order to access the headlight relay.

3. Remove the power steering pump and move it out of the way.

4. You will notice the realy agains the fender of the car. I dont remember, but I think there are two bolts that hold the relay onto the car. Unscrew and remove. If I recall correctly, I think you may need to disconnect the connector.

5. Remove mounting bracket from the old relay and put it onto the new relay.

6. Reconnect the connector and bolt it back onto the fender.

7. Put the power steering pump back in place.

8. Put the nuts back on from under the wheel well and tighten.

9. Put wheel back on.

It should take you no more than 30 minutes if you have all the right tools.

Good luck.
