black nissan 240sx 89 fastbackmanual 5 speed146,000 miles on itfullr acing exhaust no cat17" 5zigen rims ngk wireshks supermegaflow intake system extras-sr20 5 speed transmission, stock s20 turbo(needs to be rebuilt), stock sr20 ignition, extra taillights

i got all this for 500 bucks locally no body rust nothing plysicly wrong with it and it runs/drives driven a couple times.. it has no seats in it either so i got a rigged mazda mx6 seat in there for now.

problems with it-no seats, burns oil badly, really rough at low rpms in reverse and first gear, leaks oil out the headgasket

what do you guys think the problem could be? how much to fix it? is it worth it to get the sr20 or ka swap? where should i get one of those, should i just get a engine rebuild and how much would that cost? also does anyone have stock or racing seats that will fit it?

as far as burning oil, it could be the valve guides and piston rings, guides arnt that hard i dont think, rings are.

Is it really leaking for the headgasket. You might mean its leaking from the valve cover. If its the valve cover you just need to purchase a new valve cover gasket and clean up the oil resdue. That might be where the oil is going unless you see the blues coming out of the exhaust. Also you might want to concider a tune up if you don't know when the last one was done.

is it an sr or ka? so if you've an sr, you might wanna check the turbo for the burning oil thing. The rough idle, could be alot of things. Might want to give a better discription of the problem on that one.

its a stock engine not a turbo nor swap sohc. its fine idling but occasional backfire rarely though.. rough idling is that if i let off the clutch starting it up in reverse or 1rst i need to put it in at like 4k or else it stalls.. not the smoothest of launches no easy backing out of a parking lot

You also may want to clean the MAF with some electrical cleaner. That may help. Sound like rings or guides like 240kid mentioned. You best bet is driving it until it quits and saving your money for a new engine, or even a rebuild. A rebuild may be a little expensive if you have someone else do it. Junkyard engines shouldn't be more than 500.

so look for a stock junkyard engine and swap it? or get a sr? is the sr worth it or can i turbo a stock engine and be happy fine? also how much is a lil expensive for a rebuild. would u suggest a rebuild or buy a junkyard engine?

It all a matter of what you want to do. The price you will spend on a rebuild you could have a SR motorset, you might pay a little more for the motor set. I would start looking for quotes for a rebuild. I say drive it till it quits and monitor oil consumption, in the mean time save. You could always opt for the DOHC(KA24DE) swap which is found in the 91-98 240sx. Its all about preference. Do a little more on the research and take a look in the SR, KA, KA-T sections.

alright i think i want the dohc ka24de i keep hearing about.. if i go to a junk yard or find one online and buy it, what will i need to install it? any modifications or will it bolt right up. i hear it makes plenty of power as it is and wont need the sr20 and ill be happy with that. also if i get the n/a ka24 could i turbo it in the future or should i jsut opt for getting the ka-t? is that also found in the 91-98 sx's? thanks a lot bro your helping me a lot

You would be looking for the KA24DE. When you put a turbo on a KA its concidered a KA-T. I would look for a 91-94, they have internal coils and obdI. Yes it bolts in. The hard part is going to find the ecu, wiring harness, power steering lines unless you come across one in a junkyard.
