Hello guys! I just came across this forum.

One question, does anyone know if the 97 Q45 needs a HID kit?

Best bet is to find a wrecked '00 or '01, came stock with HID.

otherwise, yes, you do. You'd also have to wire it in.

Again, best bet is to get the parts from a wrecker and harness if necessary.

Not Osram D2R. You need 1999-2001 headlights and ballasts.

Moderator, please cahnge this title to HID on 1997 FGY33 or something similar. Thank you.

To run HIDs you need bulbs an ballast. The easiest, best way to fit HIDs in a 97Q Is to do what paranoidjack said. A simple "HID KIT" will only cause glare and poor light distribution. Yes it will be brighter, but at the expense of blinding other drivers. MIght as well just drive around with the high beams on. If you want the ricer blue lights then get some PIAAs and call it a day. Also a Chinese kit will probably last you 10%, at best, of what the phillips bulbs and matsu****a ballast would last you.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Sorry about the title.

I can probably get a pair of 00-01 headlights and ballasts on ebay. Or does anyone know a better web site?

You will need the later HID headlight units also.

Pretty much less expensive to buy a later FGY33 or use Sylvania Silver Stars.

Honestly, you would come out better just purchasing the 99-01 model. If I knew what I know now, there is no damn way I would have purchased my 98 because I could have gotten the 99 with the HID's. SilverStars bulbs are ok, but they blow out too quickly. The longest mine lasted was 1yr. No i didnt' touch the bulb. I just went ahead and purchased the xtravisions. As far as HID's, if you were to purchase the headlights from a 99-01, you have to remember that this will NOT be a simple plug n play. It WILL require new lighting wiring.
