Hey all-

I just purchased a 97 J30t, California car, silver with a grey interior: $1700.

Timing belt was replaced at 120k miles. At 150k, the miles are a little higher than what i was hoping for, but all in all the car just needs some polishing to make it feel like new again. I'm not new to J30s, but it seems the older these are getting the harder it is to find immaculate condition examples... so I'll have to do more work to this new addition to get it up to my standards.

Couple of questions....

I'd like for the car to feel and handle as close as possible to how these J30s felt when they were new. Remember that?

1- When driving, I'm feeling what seems like every bump in the road. Thuds almost. This would be the shocks and struts needing replacing, right? Anything else I should take care of while I'm at it to get that smooth and floating feeling these cars had when they were new?

2- When I turn the steering wheel to the far left and right, I hear what sounds like a loud pop, click. Any idea of what could be causing this?

3- Car is idling a little rough. Needle kinda jumps, hiccups. Air intake?

4- What are some things that can be done to make this car feel "tighter" while driving? I remember back in 97 my J30 felt like an airtight cockpit. WAS AMAZING. Also, anyone have any recommendations for tires? What were these J30s initially sold with?

5- Anyone have any clean grey NOS/OEM floormats they'd be willing to sell me??? ;)

THANKS IN ADVANCE EVERYONE. Here are the pics of my new ride below. The miles are high, but I'd like to get her looking showroom again.... for the most part! :mike

Looks great!

1. Look up the suspension threads on this site. The only bolt in fit are the oem ones. No aftermarket are a direct fit and need some fabrication to work.

2. I would start with a visual inspection under the hood, specifically at the power steering pulley while someone else turns the wheel.

3. Clean the MAF and throttle body. From what you describe it could even be a vacuum leak.

4. You might be able to get away adjusting the rack and pinion. Check the end links, and other than that just drive her accordingly. She is nearly 20 years old.

5. Good luck. The 93 floor mats actually has J30 embroidered on the front mats instead of the Infiniti model which is found on the rest of the year models.
