Whats up everyone, I just bought a 94 q45 for 2400$ and had a couple questions if you guys wouldn't mind helping me out!

Heres list of the issues:

1)Every time I get to around 55 mph it seems like the car starts to lose power unless I push the pedal down a lot more.

2) Also, the car idles a little rough, its pretty silent in neutral, but in drive it will sound like, smooth, rattling kind of idling, smooth, rattling, smooth in a somewhat consistent rythm.

3) And finally, after driving, when I get out of my car, it kinda smells a little bit like something is burning. Not overpowering but just enough to notice.

Thanks for your time, and help would be much appreciated

Correct me if I'm wrong but problem 3 could be the catalytic converter and injectors for problem 1 . Does it shake noticably while the loss of power at 55 mph? If it does this happened to me and ended up being an injector

It could be a number of different issues but a good start is to ohm test your fuel injectors and knock sensors.

For the burning smell take a look at the valve covers for oil leaks dripping onto the exhaust manifold and all 3 idler pulleys for the belt tension to make sure a bearing hasn't frozen.

You could also have a fuel pump problem but you'd have a struggle getting to 55 mph, not just lack of acceleration at 55 mph. How many miles on your Q?

Based on 15 years of history and doing prebuy inspections on hundreds of Q45 [over the years] we have found $3,000-$10,000 to be the range on needed repairs to bring these vehicles back to near brand new condition not including paint, interiors, or body work. A pristine paint Q45 can still need an engine, transmission, ac work, a diff, etc.

An educated buyer always finds and experienced technican to give the vehicle the once over to generate an expected cost to repair.

Be prepared to spend the purchase price every year to maintain the vehicle to near new operation AFTER you have repaired all the defects.

But then again everyone has different standards and most accept much less than near new functioning!

So what did the prepurcahse inspection by an Infiniti service technician reveal? How about the maitenance history?

Presume it drove perfectly initially? What restorative maintenance have you undertaken? So much omitted from you post.

Sorry, I'm not very experienced with cars. The car is in really good condition inside and out, it has 111000 miles on it and the guy that sold it to me supposedly used it to drive his daughters to school and to go to work. I just changed to brake rotors and pads since they were both worn out.

Time to take it to a professional for a look-see. Do not be shocked when the estimate comes back at $ 1500-2500 for needed repairs.

There is generally a reason former owner sells a 16 year old nice looking car.....usually because he has recently got an estimate for high cost repairs he does not want to complete.....why else dump a cosmetically excellent good running car for little money???????

The mechanic quoted me at 500 for my pads and rotors and I did it for 200, hopefully it'll be like that.. Thanks a lot for the help, should I take it to the dealership or try to find a regular mechanic shop?

Since the cars are so old and preOBDII, specialty uncommon test equipment is required................Dealer only or a few of the half dozen Infiniti speciality shops in US.

You want to find a technican who works on the 94-96 every single week that pretty much focuses on dealers.
