Just got a 95 300zx, tt, stick. 65k miles, prior owner had since 97 in FL. Garaged. She reports that in 1997 she did the timing belt and clutch. I do not know what or if anything else was done with the timing belt. On another site it was recommended that the timing belt be changed @ 4 yrs and another opinion was @8 years. Does anybody here have an opinion? I do not want to "blow" the engine. If I need to do a change should I go with the 60k pieces or the 120k pieces?

Three other minor issues: Fob not working. Prior owner reported getting a new fob with no results. If the receiver is bad can they be fixed (by whom) or are there replacements available (from whom)?

Hatch key does not operate the lock. Have a locksmith check it or? The remote release from the drivers seat works.

Trans "clunks" going into 2nd gear. Owner reports that it has always been this way and Nissan told her that is the way some of the cars operated. Should I be concerned?

Good grab on the low milage Z.

First thing, change the belt, do the 120k kit. It should be 4 years, but even if it was 8, if she changed it in 97 that means it 18 years old. Change it.

If the fob/receiver is factory, go to the dealer. no one after market would be able to work on it. Truthfully, most dealers don't have a clue either. My personal advice, just get a new updated alarm with what you want it to do. 95 is old technology, there are better options out there other than factory if yoiu want good security with it. If you want to keep everything stock, go to the dealer and hope for the best.

Hatch key, locksmith if you want that key to work.

2nd gear clunk, no not normal. it could either be the trans mount. More than likely it is the rear diff bushings. There are 4 bushings, 2 in front that will cause the clunk more than likely than 2 in the rear. Had the same thing, changed the ones in the front with poly bushings, noise gone. You can always lift the rear end up and and if you can move the diff up and down, thats your clunk.
