I just bought an 89 240 w/a blown engine for $450. And the rear left panel is pretty well banged up to where it would need to be replaced. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of how much a panel would cost me, and how easy it would be to put on. The person i bought it said you they checked some junk yards and they were about $200...but i don't know how reliable they are. Any info would be great.

p.s. I own a 93 240 in good condition. This will either be my parts car, or i can put another ka24e into it which my friend will sell me for $75. And use it for a beater while i am putting an SR in my 240 ( sometime in the summer ). Or if i can fix the panel i like the looks of the 89, and there are some other benefits to that specific car that i like over mine. Well im just rambling.

thanks

Since the front is banged up, I'd go with a conversion :)

I just bought an 89 auto 240sx with power everything. The reason the guy is selling is because it didn't pass smog. That and the car stumbles and can't rev past 1k. It should be an easy fix :)

Nice find. Swap your DOHC into it when you are ready to do your swap, you'll be outta a car for like two days. Make it a beater. Nice find man, good luck with it.

i'm surprised daunt hasn't chirped in yet, and said, once again, that the 240 isn't a drag car..

If its a project car, might as well make it fun and unique.

Make the 89 the beater, and make your 93 the drag car. They look better. :) :) :)

Like I said earlier, there's no fun in swapping the KA24E with an SR20DET or the KA24DE (and going turbo on it). If its going to be a project car, then might as well make it a project and not just a weekend engine swap.

Well, I was at a play tonight, yes amazingly enough I go to the theatre, otherwise I would have chimed in. However, no matter how many times I tell people it wasn't meant as a drag car and to buy an F-Body, no one listens to me. Oh well, I guess everyone can go on with their fantasy of having their 240 run "10z dawg" or whatever, doesn't really matter your 240 will not run a 10 second quartermile on a 5000 dollar budget, maybe I"m just bitter and its 2am so I guess I can review thsi when I wake up tomorrow and decide to take it down or what not, but I guess you can all see it for now.

Ok to answer your question about the body panel, the REAR quarter panels can't just be replaced cause they are part of the unibody construction. You can, however; cut out the majority of the panel and weld in the new panel. You'd have to cut out the panel from the donor car as well, and do a probably very expensive job of getting all the welding and body lines right with sanding and paint and what-not.

thanks for the info and ideas all.. and thanks for the info on the panels lateralmotion.

My plans....(as of right now) is to use the 89 as a beater and put in the ka24de in it. While i am putting the SR in my 93. Wether or not imma keep it for a winter car or sell it and make some cash after fixing it up and painting it i am not sure of.....

But i'll prolly sell it, cuz hey....wtf do i need w/ 2 cars. More money to put into my 93 is what im thinkin.

I already got myself a nice 97 SE , so thats not gonna get touched... Any fooling around will be on the 89, whether its going to be sohc built up, or sr20 swap, or ka24de turbo. It doesn't matter to me. The point is it's going to be a project car and I'm going to plan it out before I drop 2k for an sr20 front clip only to find out later that I really wanted to go with a ka24de turbo instead.
