Hey guys... first time Infiniti buyer hereAfter 2 month of researching i've decided to buy M35x over BMW 525xi, Lexus GS350. In my opinion, for the price, M35x had everything i wanted... look, performance (my previous cars: 2001 Prelude, 2001 Passat, 2004 Maxima LE, 2005 Honda Pilot EXL) safety (i have 3yr old son).I have few questions to ask to current M owners

1. Did i pay good price?I'm using local used car dealer to buy M. I came pretty close with one of sale manager there, so he got me lots of information for Manheim auction... long story short, I got a call from him yesterday and was told he got me 2006 M35X Black/Black, 30k mile, full option (navi, etc), clean report (one owner)...etc for $27,150. I live in NJ so sales tax is 7% plus dealer fee, title, reg fee...etc... so in total i'm looking at $31~$32k. Did i get a good deal?

2. TiresI read from somewhere in this forum...people complaining about stock tire that comes with M. This car i'm buying has Continental 245/45R18 equipted with 8/32" remaining. Is Conti good brand to trust? again, i live in northern NJ so i do get snow.. i heard someone saying Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position is good... but i think it's little pricey... is it worth it?

3. WarrantyI think this car has some warranty left...but is it possible for me to buy extended warranty from Infiniti? or do i have to buy from 3rd party? and is getting 3rd party warranty any good at all?

4. MaintenanceSince i'm buying used car (first time) and it has 30k mile, i think i should get it fully checked.. I remember spending few hundred on my Maxima for 32k maintenance service... My question is... should i take M to Infiniti dealer? or is it ok to take it to local shop (pepboys maybe? )

5. Final questionthis is to current M35X owners... are you happy with this car? =)

Hello,Welcome to NICO. Congratulations on your car. That is an excellent price given the equipment.

1) Really good price. I paid the same price for a 2004 M45 a year and a half ago. This included C.P.O and Infiniti Elite Warranty for that price. To get an AWD current generation for the same price is rad.

2) Tires: Many members here who live in the Northlands choose to purchase a winter tire and wheel combo and a High Performance Summer tire and wheel combo. Truly the best of both worlds without compromise. There is a extensive tire thread here on NICO with user experience. If going all season, I would go for Michelin Pilot A/S. If doing Summer, Michelin Pilot PS2's all the way. Winter, I say Bridgestone Blizzak's.

3) Warranty: Since your car is still under the factory warranty, adding the Infiniti extended warranty should present no problem. The Infiniti Elite is worth considering given that the audio/nav system is not covered by most extended warranty's. Infiniti's standard C.P.O warranty included. I would steer clear of third party extended warranty companies. Too much risk and stress. Too many stories of denial of claims, too many companies going bankrupt.

4) Service. With a car as complex and expensive as an M, I would go to a shop specializing in Infiniti's or the dealer only. I would go to Pep Boy's for your fuzzy dice and car wash supply needs.

5) Don't own a 35.Cheers,M.L

thanks for the infoglad to hear i got good deal on my new baby =)i'll go for Infiniti's warranty plus service... only thing is tires... i live in a condo with one garage space... so no room for me to keep extra set tires. I guess i'll keep looking for good all-season tires

one more question about warranty... i guess i can purchase them from dealer... do all dealers charge same price on extended warranty? there are two close infiniti dealers around my neighborhood... Infiniti of Manhattan (hate these guys) and Infiniti of Englewood. Maybe i should try out-of-state dealers? or contact Infiniti directly?thanks in advance

Hello,Many people here swear by Infiniti of Scottsdale. They are one of the sponsors here and offer discounts for NICO members. They offer a very competitive price on extended warranty's.Cheers,M.L

Yes!

And, you can negotiate on the price of the Extended Warranty with the dealers. Not as easily as if you were buying the car from them, but there is some room to negotiate.

As an FYI -- dealers typically mark up their extended warranties by 50% or more. If they quote you $1500, their "cost" is closer to $750. You won't get it for that but you might get 300 to 400 off.

As for tires, don't sweat it for the next 6 months. Drive on what you currently have and then in November or December make the switch. So now you have six months to "burn some rubber"!!

Enjoy!

You got a good price-I love my M. I've got ContiExtremeContacts for all seasons. Great in snow and dry. M's are expensive-period. Do your best w/the warranty. Let us know who you finally use and the price. If the dealer knows you'll post that info, they might give you a better deal..?

I'll answer question #5, even though I own an M35 RWD. It's a tremendous car and it's easy to see how you chose it over its rivals. What won't be apparent right away - and what I wish I had investigated a bit more - is that this car has a healthy appetite for (premium) fuel. With gas blowing past $4/gallon, this car begins to make less sense. It's geared too high (numerically) so that it can post great acceleration numbers in magazines, and it lacks a 6th gear. I'm lucky to average 19mpg in mixed driving and you'll be 2-3mpg below that because of the AWD.

Infiniti nailed every technology and performance benchmark with this car except one - MPG. It's unfortunate that the rising cost of fuel may really hurt both new and resale values of this fine car. I'm thinking seriously about unloading mine this summer and finding a clean E320 CDI. Gas is just going up and up - if you drive a lot this car will hurt you bad in the wallet.

Hey, the M is a luxury machine. You knew that when you bought it. Luxuries are expensive. It was never meant to be anything else. Possibly you might sell it and give your bank account some time to grow. Delay of gratification never hurt anyone; in fact its a sign of maturity..!

2.) My 07 m35x came with Eagle Gt rs-a while not a bad tire during summer weather, they're horrible in winter conditions. As for the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS they're good tires but probably have a low tread life and not really needed unless you need the ultimate traction for your car. Keep your Continental tires for summer and buy a good set of winter tires when it starts to get bad on the road.

Dealers definitely do not charge the same for warranty's. The dealers cost is always the same, but dealerships are free to mark up the warranty as much as they like.

Very negotiable... just call a few dealerships and ask to speak to someone in finance.

She's beautiful, shapely, luxurious, fast, very expensive to date and she's also quite a drinker. But then hopefully you realized that before you fell in love w/her...
